Things To Do This January: What The CF Team Are Loving

Hello 2025! Whether the first month of the year means ‘new year, new you’ or you’re simply on the search for some fun things to keep you entertained, there’s plenty of things to do this January.

A new year means a fresh start, and lots of exciting things to look forward to. Including places to eat and stay, plus things to buy, watch and try – this is what the Citizen Femme team’s calendar is filled with this January.

STAY Lowkey this month. I have no hotel stays booked for one month, but I am booking ahead to a small staycation at Soho Farmhouse in February. EAT I’m excited to dine at the (relatively) newly revamped Tramp. In the new version, its perfectly acceptable to be home by 11pm – and that’s definitely my vibe. STAY ON TRACK With my new Oura Ring. It’s still figuring out my schedule, but if it takes a ring to tell me when to take it easy, I’ll try it! SEE Barcelona at Duke of York’s Theatre before it closes on 10 January. A seductive thriller? Yes please. And at the end of the month, Oedipus at The Old Vic, one of my favourite London theatres, co-directed by Matthew Warchus and Hofesh Shechter. A winner. READ Top of my January reading list is Sally Rooney’s Intermezzo, but also Private Equity by Carrie Sun (to be seen if I make it through both!) TRY I’m trying the yoga, journalling, and sound session at the historic RSA House with friends, a lovely start to the week.

EXPLORE The Athens Riviera. I already know it well having previously lived along its coastline for four years but, with plenty of new openings, it’s time to catch up. I’m starting with a stay at Four Seasons Astir Palace and Ace Hotel & Swim ClubBUY New luggage tags, and I’ve got my eye on this black leather version (plus the passport case) from Greek brand Zeus+Dione. VISIT The Democracy exhibition at the National Gallery in Athens, which explores art created in response to the 1960s and 70s fight for democracy in Greece, Portugal and Spain. It’s on until 2 February 2025. READ Aria Aber’s fiction debut, Good Girl. Aber tells the story of Nila, the daughter of Afghan refugees, as she lives out her teenage years in Berlin’s underground techno nightclubs. TRY To restart my pre-work morning walks. Not a New Year’s resolution as such, just something I really enjoy but am inconsistent about. Hopefully this time I’ll make it stick.

STAY Relaxed – and learn more about Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM) as one of the first to try the latest wellness retreat at Layan Life by Anantara in Thailand. I can’t wait to start 2025 right by learning new strategies for boosting my overall wellbeing. EAT At The Frog by Adam Handling in Covent Garden – a Michelin-starred restaurant, where you can enjoy ‘travelling’ around Britain through your tastebuds. The tasting menu is packed with locally sourced and sustainable ingredients from across the isles, which are designed to get the most out of seasonal produce. REVAMP My hair colour by booking in at the Nicola Clarke salon in central London. I always feel so confident walking out with an on-trend take on low-maintenance balayage. Plus, the blowdries there are brilliant too. WORKOUT At Enmeï – an exciting new wellness space in Chelsea, which looks set to make me fall back in love with group exercise classes. The sessions combine Pilates with strength and endurance training, for body sculpting results you can see in a flash! ENJOY A trending ‘head spa’ experience, which is revolutionising my approach to relaxation. After the busyness of the festive period, I can’t wait to try Cloud Twelve’s Scalp Facial experience that relieves tension through head massage, while improving your hair health too.

STAY I have my eye on the Orient Express La Minerva in Rome. The company’s first ever hotel, it’s sure to be super glamorous. HOST I’m Scottish, and every year I host a Burns Night around the 25 of January. It’s a fun excuse to don a bit of tartan, get lots of friends together and have a little dram of whisky – a great way to brighten up January. I’ll be adding a bit of tartan with this gorgeous tablecloth from Mrs Alice and popping thistles in these sweet bud vases from Neptune. BOOK The Isle of Wight Festival before it sells out. We are going this year with a big group of friends and I’m looking forward to dancing in the sunshine (hopefully!) to the likes of Sting, Texas and Justin Timberlake. DO Every year I say I’m going to take a cookery course in January – and this year I actually intend to do it! I love the look of the Daylesford Cookery School with classes such as ‘Quick and Simple Suppers’ (ideal for a busy mum) and ‘Eat Well, Live Better’. WEAR After all the sparkles of the festive season, it’s time to turn my attention to ski gear for my upcoming family trip to Austria. This year I’m adding this cute jumper from The Little Tailor and this cashmere foulard from & Daughter to my ski wardrobe.

EAT I’ll be transporting myself to Mexico this January by way of King’s Road restaurant, Ixchel. Hand-painted murals, bamboo-clad ceilings and aztec fabrics embody the bohemian spirit of Tulum right in the heart of Chelsea. Be sure to order the tuna tostadas and cucumber jalepēno margaritas. WEAR I’m living in my sheepskin Ku’i slippers from OluKai, the anatomically contoured footbeds have been created to mimic the feeling of bare feet in wet sand and the comfort factor is next level. COOK Our Place have just released the ultimate non-stick pan that’s coating-free and made without PFAS. The latest iteration of their ‘Always Pan’ is made from titanium and looks as good as it cooks – something I plan on doing more of this year! WORKOUT Not a resolution, but I have vowed to move more this year, and the Fluidform app delivers short 20-minute pilates videos that are enjoyable and easy to follow along. When you’re stretched for time, these on-demand workouts make it much easier to achieve your wellness goals from home. BEAUTY Secret Spa has joined forces with renowned Aesthetic Doctor and brand founder Dr. David Jack to bring the Lift & Sculpt Facial to the comfort of your living room. Combining the power of performance-driven skincare with professional massage techniques for a firming and rejuvenating treatment that is bound to beat the January blues. I’ll be booking in for a pre-birthday glow at the end of the month.

EAT I’m finally getting round to trying River Café Café, the more relaxed little sister of Ruth Rogers’ legendary restaurant. It’s steps away from the mothership and still serves Italian food but in a more informal setting that might suit my toddler better. WEAR I’m wrapped up in my blue cashmere scarf from McQueen. The colour is so uplifting and perfect for beating January gloom. I’ve also been wearing a pair of backless leather loafers from FitFlop with sparkly socks. They feel like slippers, but are socially acceptable to wear outside. DO I’ll make a beeline to see Layla Andrews’ new exhibition, Flies in Amber, at Soho Revue. There’s only a few days left of the show (it closes on 11th of January), but the artist’s vibrant paintings are exactly what this month needs. Currently a resident of Tracey Emin’s Studios in Margate, she’s headed for big things. SEE January is so great for the cinema as awards season is just round the corner. I’m really excited to see Timothee Chalamet as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, Angelina Jolie as opera singer Maria Callas in Maria and Nicole Kidman in Babygirl. GO I try to plan a weekend away every January to beat the post-Christmas blues. This month, we’re going to visit friends in Totnes. I’m looking forward to checking out all the independent boutiques there. VISIT The new café and book shop at Alaia’s Bond Street store. I can’t think of a chicer place to go for coffee.

EAT I’m looking forward to a night out in London, celebrating my younger sister’s 21st birthday at Pirana London. The Peruvian-Japanese fusion menu is calling my name (hello, ceviche and sushi), and the vibe feels just right for this milestone celebration. WEAR Activewear that’ll (fingers crossed) guilt me into showing up at the gym. January is all about fresh starts, and this year, I’m sticking to the plan – no excuses. I’ve got my eye on Sporty & Rich for some gym-to-coffee-run pieces. Pricey? Yes. But if it motivates me to get moving, it’s worth it. STAY I’d love to stay at Maison Barrière Vendôme in Paris. This new luxury hotel will open in early 2025 and is set inside what was once a private mansion. I’m already daydreaming about the rooms, which look straight out of a Pinterest board. READ Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney. My Goodreads book challenge has reset, and this highly anticipated release is the perfect way to start strong. Out on 14 January, it’s a gripping mystery set on a tiny Scottish island, with Feeney’s signature twisty storytelling. WATCH New year, new binge-worthy series to obsess over. Missing You on Netflix is dropping January 1st. It’s based on the Harlan Coben novel, and after the incredible success of Fool Me Once, this British adaptation promises suspense, intrigue, and binge-worthy storytelling.

EXERCISE At home – it’s often the easiest option for me, so I want to buy some cute weights. These from Pro Iron come in lots of different colours. EAT No ultra-processed food (after reading Ultra Processed People) and the only bread that I can find in the super market that fits is Jason’s Sourdough. WEAR January is a month for leggings and workout gear (and pretending I’m on a health kick). I love these from Lululemon, in Legacy Green. RESOLUTIONS I want to build up my running again and will be using the Couch to 5k app – it’s an NHS app and incredibly easy to use, but effective. LISTEN I love listening to the Aquired podcast and hearing about how amazing companies are created and sustained. The founders of Aquired have an amazing way of narrating and investigating these businesses. I’ve loved listening to the stories of Mars and IKEA recently.

DRINK The closest thing I’ve found to real gin, with notes of rosemary, moss and sage, Pentire is my non-alcoholic go-to for Dry January. VISIT SoulCycle – a 45-minute, high-intensity indoor cycling class to kick-start my fitness in 2025. WATCH I’ll be staying cosy at home on the sofa with Season three of gripping BBC1 gameshow The Traitors. BEAUTY Santa kindly delivered a Currentbody LED Light Therapy Mask that I’m excited to add in to my daily routine. READ I Can Cook Vegan by Isa Chandra Moskowitz will help me get my bearings as I embark on a month of clean-eating. BOOK Tickets for Come Alive! a circus spectacular in Earl’s Court based on The Greatest Showman.

WATCH One of my favourite shows, legal drama The Split returns for a two-part Barcelona special on BBC1. Starring the superb Nicola Walker as a female divorce lawyer, the series follows the Defoe family in their professional and personal lives. Brilliant cast, smart and witty and emotionally charged. VISIT January is that time of the year when I dust off my membership and return to the gym. After over indulging during the festive season, I’ll be trying to shed off those extra inches on the treadmill and cross-trainer. EAT At Bistro Freddie in Shoreditch. One of my favorite restaurants in town, showcasing the best in British produce and French wine. Alexandre Laforce Reynolds‘ menu is inspired by classic British and French gastronomy. Must orders are the pig croquettes for snacks and the steak tartare. Top it all off with the sticky toffee pudding. WEAR I’m currently living in my joggers and love the Adidas Originals classic velvet track jacket and pants. I also have my eye on a pair of Adidas pink and blue Gazelles to match. SHOP At The Exploding Bakery. I am a sucker for anything sweet and their range of delicious cakes and brownies are a treat – delivered through your letterbox! The Salted caramel brownie and the coffee and walnut cake goes down well with a nice cuppa.

EAT Dorian in Notting Hill exudes that rare, quietly-confident, old-school charm but with a modern approach to its menu (featuring dishes cooked over a roaring fire in the open kitchen), that is worth revisiting time and time again. Plus, it just received a well-deserved Michelin Star – that’s worth toasting to. READ After loving Djuna Barnes’ Nightwood (delineating the debaucherous lifestyle of American and European expats in 1930s Paris, widely considered a cult work of modern lesbian fiction) I’d love to read her selected stories titled I Am Alien To Life, recently collated and republished by one of my favourite publishers. WATCH Women with a Movie Camera summit 2025 returns to the BFI on the Southbank on 18 January. Packed with events, talks, and screenings by female and non-binary voices, I’m definitely buying tickets with friends. BOOK I’m still in search for really good kundalini yoga and Reformer Pilates classes in London, so will be booking a ClassPass membership (like the rest of London as soon as the New Year’s Eve hangover starts to wear off) to try a few different Pilates and yoga studios – until I find the perfect one. SHOP I am feeling very fortunate and excited to be going on a ski trip with friends this year. The prep begins this month, from booking a chalet to shopping chic ski wear. Perfect Moment is my go-to brand for looking stylish on the slopes, and their new capsule collection in collaboration with Johnnie Walker has my attention. You won’t miss the electric blue colourways of each piece zipping down the white pistes!
