Things To Do With Children This January: CE Team Recommends

There’s no need for the January blues with plenty to look forward to in 2025. Here, the Citizen Enfants team share what they are up to with their children this month, and what they’re planning for the year ahead.

January is cold and grey, but it’s also a great opportunity for a reset with time to focus on wellbeing, as well as to plan fun family adventures for the coming year. Including wellness and self care ideas, books to read with little ones, winter days out with kids and clever ways to engage them (saving money, setting goals and being mindful of the world around them included), these ideas will help you make a positive start to 2025.

PLAN We will be hosting our first event with Jaego’s House this month talking about the upcoming year of family travel: where to go, when to go and what to enjoy. With experts from Scott Dunn, I’m sure its going to be a great way to kick off the year. VISIT In the colder months we love the Science Museum. It has occupied many an afternoon and I’ll be taking frequent trips here this January. BUY A much needed winter hat for my daughter. I love the brand Baboushkini, who have the sweetest children’s balaclavas. BOOK A pregnancy pampering massage with the phenomenal Dimple Amani. It focuses on water retention and resting weary feet. Just what mums-to-be need.

RESET With healthy home-cooked meals. I’m loving the quick and easy recipes in Suzanne Mulholland’s new book The Batch Lady Rapid Dinners and Jamie Oliver’s Simply Jamie. JOURNAL I love the concept behind the Raise 100-Day Challenge which encourages you to really consider your habits, mindset and goals through journaling in their chic productivity planner. There is also a kids version with activity pages, weekly challenges and reflection prompts. A great tool to help kids start the year in a positive, mindful way. SAVE Help teach kids and teens how to manage money with the excellent GoHenry app. Like a bank account for children, each account comes with a debit card and lets kids aged six to 18 learn practical money management skills, while letting parents have full access and the ability to control and restrict spending. It’s a safe and easy introduction to banking. WEAR I absolutely love Pilates and as I seem to live in my leggings, I figure they may as well be stylish – so I’m loving the new Bamford Active Wear collection. BOOK The grey January weather is turning my attention to planning sunny holidays. OKU Andalusia opens this summer and looks like the dream spot for a luxe, fun family break with older kids and teens.

GO To The Barbican. After closing temporarily in mid-December, it reopens its Conservatory this month – a tropical paradise in the heart of Brutalist London, complete with terrapins. Tickets are free, but always sell out. Sign up to the newsletters and be first to hear when they launch. BOOK My toddler’s love for the TV show Bing knows no bounds, so I’m booking tickets to see the bunny himself ‘on tour’ at New Wimbledon Theatre in May. READ Father Christmas was good enough to gift my son Julia Donaldson’s latest book, Jonty Gentoo: The Adventures of A Penguin, which we’ve been reading on repeat. The illustrations are so vivid and it’s such a sweet story about finding your tribe. EAT We’re going to the River Cafe’s sister site, the more relaxed River Cafe Cafe this month. The food looks divine and I’m hoping I’ll be able to satisfy my son’s love of mortadella with its Italian dishes. WEAR In an ongoing quest to dress my child like Paddington Bear, we’ve invested in a pair of red wellington boots, perfect for splashing around in this January. Ours are from Vinted, but these from Nori are very similar.

DANCE On the 11th, we’re heading to a family dance party with Raver Tots who are taking over the Lost in Light art exhibition with confetti cannons, giant balloons, face painting and licensed bars. READ I’m newly obsessed with Mo Willems’ Elephant and Piggie humorous children’s books, after kindly receiving one as a Christmas present. VISIT The Little Feet: Exhibition Explorer at the British Museum is the chance for you to see the Silk Roads show with plenty of hands-on baby and toddler-friendly activities. BUY Wellies weather is still in full swing so this classic navy pair from JoJo Maman Bébé are on the wishlist for playground adventures. EAT January is for long Sunday roasts and we love our local, The Lady Mildmay, who are super accommodating for little ones.

PLAY We’ve had a Lovevery subscription for our son for over a year now and it’s so exciting when a new box of toys arrive. His current playkit, The Helper, has to be the best yet. The toy sink is genius and perfect for sustainable water play (the pump mechanism means the water is reused) without your little one (and the entire kitchen) getting soaked. SHOP Anything from Organic Zoo, I love their slogan sweatshirts, the fisherman pants, the little dungarees… the wishlist for my little one’s wardrobe is endless! VISIT Like a lot of little boys, my toddler is dinosaur mad. I can’t wait to take him to the Natural History Museum later this month to see T-Rex roar and to get his fill of dino facts and fun. EAT Adam Handling’s British gastropub The Loch & The Tyne is a real treat. It’s always filled with families (and dogs!) and the staff are so welcoming. The children’s menu is great, but they’ll also happily turn anything on the main menu into a small portion to accommodate the needs of even the littlest taste buds.

COOK WITH Pans made by From Our Place. I love their ‘Our Place Always Pan’ as it is so useful and easy. I threw away all my non-stick pans and now use only their non-toxic options. The company also has a beautiful aesthetic and mission. JOIN The Smartphone Free Parent Pact. This brilliant grassroots organisation is on a mission to protect children from the harms of social media and smart phones. I signed the pact and will be supporting them as they grow. VOLUNTEER I recently discovered Time Givers who enable young people to have access to enriching volunteering opportunities to support their communities. We will be spending time volunteering with them this year. PLAY Dingoes Football Club offers amazing girls football sessions. My six year-old started playing last year and absolutely loves it. Such great exercise and helps with team building skills. WEAR Mini Rodini – bringing fun to January in these cute leopard coats.
