High street store H&M is joining forces with The White Lotus for a sunshine-ready collection inspired by the show’s most stylish characters. H&M’s White Lotus-themed collection, a 25-piece collaboration, goes on sale on 20 February, just a few days after the release of season three, on 16 February.
Since the series began in summer 2021, the costumes have been pored over. How we loved the maximalist kaftans of Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya, and the swirling printed bikinis of Meghann Fahy’s Daphne. We all talked a lot about the meaning behind the chaotic Gen Z looks of Portia, and the rich-kid vintage T-shirts worn by Olivia and Paula. One of the most stylish shows in recent years, The White Lotus has given us an aesthetic that epitomises what a wealthy holiday wardrobe looks like. Each season, the show is set in a luxury hotel in differing locations; the first was set in Hawaii, the second in Sicily and the soon-to-be-released third in Thailand.
H&M has worked directly with the show’s costume designer Alex Bovaird to create pieces that reference characters from seasons past and present, including, crucially, Tanya-inspired wafty kaftans destined for floating down to the beach or pool. “The collection features the trademarks of the show,” Bovaird told us. “There’s bold colours and magical prints, using the motifs of the vacation resort. In Sicily, we did a lot of tile prints to fit in with the Mediterranean theme and with Sicilian ceramics. To reflect season three’s Thailand setting, we used a lot of elephant and snake motifs, the citrus colours of Thailand and then greens to represent the jungle tones.”
Highlights include babydoll white dresses, colourful short-sleeved shirts and a halter-neck dress in vivid greens. “It is inspired by Thailand, but there are characters who have lent their style to different pieces,” explains Bovaird. “There’s a prim lace set that’s inspired by a Southern character on the show, and a bohemian piece that’s inspired by someone who is a real free spirit. If someone wants to look like a certain character from the series, they can do that with this collection.”
Although many of the pieces are made to stand-out, there’s a lot here that can be worn day-to-night on holiday. The accessories include straw hats, sandals and necklaces that look like they could have been found in a market somewhere far-flung. “There is a philosophy in how to dress The White Lotus guests,” says Bovaird. “It’s grounded, so that we recognise these characters, but elevated and a little bit amped up – everyone dresses up for dinner for example. People bring the best version of themselves.”
