If there’s one thing worth staying in for this week, it’s the new season of The White Lotus. But, if being out and about is more your vibe, there’s a new restaurant making waves in Notting Hill and a must-see exhibition opening this Thursday.
Plus, we’ve discovered the at-home facial you need to try, as well as a new sustainably crafted British jewellery brand to jazz up your outfits. This is what we’re loving in this week’s Citizen Femme hotlist.
With much anticipation, it’s back again. The White Lotus has hit our screens, and thanks to sharp-eyed puppetmaster Mike White, this third series is an intensely satisfying slow burn. We’re in Thailand this time, at a resort dedicated to wellness, and another group of rich and obnoxious Americans arrive by boat at the island resort, transported to their adult playgrounds, cueing more trouble in paradise. The premise for each season is simple (relatively) – a dead body is found washed up at an outpost of one the world’s most exclusive hotels, The White Lotus. The action then rewinds seven days and we get to know the guests and the staff of the luxury resort, all the while wondering who’ll get it and whodunnit. This one takes a couple of episodes to pick up, but oh does it get there. And while searches for visiting Thailand have tripled, the show is having an effect on your wardrobe too with H&M’s White Lotus-themed collection, a 25-piece collaboration that goes on sale this week.
Augustinus Bader has a reputation for groundbreaking skin care that has earned a favourite spot amongst many women, spanning celebrities and the aestheticians that tend to their complexions. Known for its signature TFC8 technology – a blend of amino acids and vitamins that help the skin repair itself – the brand has now applied its patented complex to a full-face treatment: the Augustinus Bader Hydrogel Face Masks. These luxury sheet masks promise the same benefits as the brand’s coveted under-eye patches, providing a quick at-home facial experience (can be enjoyed long enough to indulge in the next episode of your favourite show) designed to hydrate, smooth, and subtly brighten skin.
I love finding a jewellery brand that can become a wardrobe staple. New British brand AJOSEPO, the baby of Tofi Caroline Adedoyin, a former investment banker, comes from the brain of exactly what you’d hope for. Created to empower women and make them feel good with timeless, versatile pieces for the everyday wardrobe. Across four collections, they symbolise timelessness and eternity from classic pearl jewellery with a modern touch to jewellery celebrating the beauty of natural stones, or perhaps statement pieces with sculptured rings, bracelets and necklaces. All jewellery is crafted from recycled and sustainable materials so you can look good and feel good, and certainly wear on repeat.
Jackson Boxer announced on Instagram that after five years of trading, the critically acclaimed and much loved Orasay was to close. Now it opens in its new form, Dove. Opened on the same spot at 31 Kensington Park Road, Notting Hill, London, the menu consists of a list of things that Jackson wants to cook and eat right now. Drinks are right up our street too with martinis, negronis and margaritas being served. It is ‘not re-inventing the wheel, but re-inventing the restaurant for today’s economy,’ he says. The emphasis on seafood has been replaced with a focus on the best British ingredients, brightened up with whatever happens to be at its best in Europe, too. So, a mini lasagne of deep-fried Taleggio cheese and Wiltshire truffle to snack on while deciding between roast chicken with fennel and blood orange or lemon and ricotta dumplings with lobster cream and lime leaf.
From 1980 to 2004, The Face Magazine played a vital role in creating contemporary culture, celebrating iconic fashion images and portraits, becoming a trail-blazing youth culture and style magazine featuring faces on its covers that achieved global success – including a young Kate Moss – who became the most recognisable faces of their time. The magazine also launched the careers of many leading photographers and fashion stylists, who were given the creative freedom to radically reimagine the visual language of fashion photography and define the spirit of their times. In a new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, you can enjoy the works of over 80 photographers featuring over 200 photographs. With Fashion Weeks looming world over, its a great opportunity to see many of these images away from the magazine page for the first time.
