It’s nearly Mother’s Day, a special occasion when we celebrate and remember the wonderful women in our lives.
Presents are always thoughtful, from homemade cards to the little every day luxuries that all mums are thrilled to receive, but often it’s even more special to give the gift of an experience and create memories. So whether you are looking to book a day out to share with your mum, or you’d like to mark the day by planning a treat with your children, here are some favourite ways to celebrate Mother’s Day this year.
Book into the Rosewood London for their Mother’s Day spa and afternoon tea package. Start with an excellent facial or Swedish massage in their tranquil spa where you’ll forget all about the bustle of city life outside as you’re shown to your peaceful treatment room. After the hour-long session, chill out in the relaxation room together before getting ready to head upstairs to the stunning Mirror room to enjoy a champagne afternoon tea. The hotel’s executive Pastry Chef Mark Perkins’ creates art-inspired Afternoon Teas, the latest of which is an immersive and visually striking experience inspired by the renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Known for his depictions of landscapes, Hokusai’s style has been translated into a selection of exquisite Art Cakes that almost look too good to eat and are served alongside a fabulous spread of finger sandwiches, scones, and a selection of loose-leaf teas. This is a magical day out to share in one of London’s most fabulous hotels.
Flowers are the classic Mother’s Day gift, but how about taking that idea to the next level with a flower arranging workshop? There are plenty to choose from including Spring Jam Jar Arranging and creating a Spring Flower Mobile at Petersham Nurseries in Richmond. Perfect to enjoy with a creative child who is happy to concentrate on the task in hand (not one to book for little children) or even multigenerational with granddaughter, mum and grandmother. This masterclass will teach you how to create a Petersham Nurseries-style vase arrangement, celebrating the best garden-foraged flowers. As part of this workshop, you will be introduced to conditioning garden flowers and branches for optimum vase life and given top tips on flower care. In line with Petersham’s ethos, sustainability is a key focus, so all materials will be recyclable and biodegradable. The ticket price includes all materials to take away with you, plus tea, coffee and a seasonal Bellini.
For a mother’s day treat that you can keep as a sweet and constant little reminder of each other, opt for matching welded bracelets from Astrid and Miyu. These elegant, delicate pieces of jewellery come in different designs and you can choose from a range of 9k yellow & white gold in timeless styles you can both enjoy together. Book a 20 minute appointment at one of their UK-wide stores and let their expert jewellers carefully weld these dainty chains to your wrists with their specialist machine. (Note: It’s all safe with a minimum age requirement of 10 – anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult.) You can add charms to personalise your choice for some added mum and daughter matching. Should you want to remove your bracelet in future it can easily be snipped with scissors at home or simply ask the jeweller to make it with a clasp so it can be taken on and off easily.
Cloud Twelve Family Members Club in Notting Hill is a great option for mums with little ones looking to keep them entertained all under one roof. Open to non members too, activities will run throughout the day on March 30th, offering a great selection of activities for children in their kids’ club including games, challenges and entertainment for all ages as well as the soft play areas. There’s also some TLC for mums in the form of surprise luxurious treats for mums. There is a spa on site and a fantastic child-friendly café which makes it a great place to enjoy the day.
Whether you choose to create the same scent or have quite different perfume preferences, the Floris Together Fragrance Customise service is a wonderful experience for mums and their child(ren) to design their very own bespoke scent. The three-hour appointment for two will take place at the flagship store on London’s Jermyn Street and during the session, you will work with an in-house perfumer, starting by choosing from a wide selection of fine fragrance bases and gradually crafting your scents with the introduction of new accords to complement your taste until both of your custom fragrances are complete. Your fragrances will be poured into 100ml bottles and personalised named for you to take away. This experience is most suited to children over the age of 10, but get in touch with Floris to discuss your individual requirements.
Spend Mother’s Day at the races with Ascot’s first family day of 2025. As well as some world-class horse racing, there are plenty of activities that children will love such as willow crafting, animal displays on the Grandstand Lawn, a remote-control car track, balloon modelling and face painting, ensuring plenty of hands-on fun. A highlight of the event will be special appearances at intervals by the TV character Bluey. Visitors can also meet Ascot’s Equine Ambassador, Side Glance, a much-loved former racehorse, for a special up-close equine experience. Trackside, the action gets underway at 2.10pm and spectators can look forward to an exhilarating day of racing as the Jumps season at Ascot comes to a thrilling finale. As this year’s Spring Family Raceday also coincides with Mother’s Day, you can also celebrate the occasion in style with a quintessentially English afternoon tea in the Windsor Forest Restaurant, overlooking the winning post with spectacular views of the course.
Perfect for mums and their teenage or adult daughters, Mamma Mia The Party is a night of unadulterated fun where you’ll leave with cheeks aching from so much laughing. Guests arrive at an impressively staged Greek taverna complete with bougainvillea and fairylights (all in the heart of the O2), for a four-course meal while an Abba-themed musical is performed around the tables. The plot isn’t the same as the film, but the mood is just as upbeat. There are dance routines, water acrobatics and at one point a pyro fire display. Afterwards, embrace your inner dancing Queen for a disco that sees everyone on their feet. It isn’t cheap, but if the goal is a dose of cheerful mother and daughter escapism, then Mamma Mia can’t be beaten.
