Citizen Enfants' Treatment Of The Month: Rosewood London's Mum-And-Daughter Massage

We know how much mums love (and need) a little bit of self care from time to time. Every month, we’ll be checking into (and checking out) treatments for mums and mums-to-be. This month it’s a mum-and-daughter massage at Rosewood London.

For some truly special mum-and-daughter time this Mother’s Day – or at any other point in the year for that matter – The Rosewood’s wonderful package consists of a blissful Swedish massage in the hotel’s serene spa, followed by a tasty and elegant afternoon tea.

THE LOWDOWN

On arrival you’ll be whisked down to the hotel’s underground spa, which immediately transports you away from the buzz of the city above. Start by making good use of the spa’s facilities – the steam room and sauna are an excellent way to kick off a day of pampering. Then head to the tranquil relaxation room to have a (hushed) chat on side-by-side day beds with a cup of herbal tea while you await your therapist.

Before your hour-long, classic Swedish massage, your therapist will chat to you to discuss any medical conditions. This is also the time to establish any specific needs, as well as what you would like the massage to achieve; for example a focus on a particular area and whether you wish to feel relaxed or uplifted. Then it’s time to relax together and enjoy a lovely spa experience à deux. After the treatments are wrapped up, it’s back to the relaxation room, before getting re-dressed in the well-equipped changing rooms (with plenty of luxury products on hand), and heading upstairs for your afternoon tea.

WHO IS THE TREATMENT FOR?

This is the perfect spa experience to share with someone special: that could be mum and daughter, aunt and niece, friends, or as a couple. The only limitation is that guests must be aged eight and over. Those aged from age eight to 12 years can use facilities and receive treatment as long as a parent or guardian is present at all times; opt for a couples’ treatment room or take your massages at different times. Guests from ages 13 to 15 years can use facilities and indulge in treatments solo if a guardian gives signed consent, and those over 16 years have full access to treatments and facilities. This is a wonderful way – and a wonderful place – to introduce older children to the joys of a spa and massage, with experienced, thoughtful staff on hand to answer any questions kids might have and to make them feel comfortable and welcome.

FOOD + DRINK

One of the nicest things about this experience is that it combines the two lovely elements of a chilled-out spa and an afternoon tea in the hotel’s beautiful Mirror Room. Exquisite and delicious, the Rosewood’s afternoon tea is something special. Executive pastry chef Mark Perkins is renowned for creating art-inspired afternoon teas, the latest of which is an immersive and visually striking experience inspired by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Known for his depictions of landscapes, Hokusai’s style has been translated into a selection of exquisite art-inspired cakes that look too good to eat, and are served alongside a fabulous spread of finger sandwiches, scones, and a selection of loose-leaf teas. Adults might opt for the Champagne package, while younger guests can order soft drinks and delicious sparkling tea (which is more like a lemonade than a tea) – and all allergies and dietary requirements can be met. If by any chance you don’t manage to finish all the treats, box them up to enjoy later.

THE LOCATION

In the heart of London, just a five-minute walk from the shops and theatres of Covent Garden and the West End, the Rosewood London is one of the city’s finest properties. Grand but not fussy, this hotel has a reputation for excellent service and a warm and friendly approach towards children. Should you want to extend your day to an overnight stay then check out the fabulous suites that are ideal for families.
