Culture, luxe workouts, girls trips (that make it out of the WhatsApp group) and dream bakes and cakes, this is what this week is about.
Plus, we are indulging in the best way to take in culture with meeting the most-wanted emerging artists and catching one of the world’s finest operas. This is what we’re loving in this week’s Citizen Femme hotlist.
Lovers of the opera, this is one way to ease in, or first-timers, here’s how to satiate your love for the stage. This week, The Royal Opera presents its first revival of Damiano Michieletto’s production of Carmen. Premiering to 4 and 5-star reviews in 2024, Michieletto’s searing staging casts a new light on the lust, violence and passion of Bizet’s ever-popular opera, marking 150 years since the opera’s premiere in 1875. Mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina returns to the role of Carmen following her commended performances in last Season’s premiere. She was the youngest Carmen ever at both The Metropolitan Opera and The Royal Opera; and Carmen has since become her international signature role, which she has performed at Bayerische Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Arena di Verona. Akhmetshina shares the role with Anna Goryachova, who performs throughout the summer run. Alongside a roster of stellar artists, the production also includes the RBO Youth Opera Company, The Royal Opera’s in-house chorus of 9–13-year-olds, as local neighbourhood children.
The girls’ trip has come of age. And we mean a trip that offers a perfect mix of luxury, wellness, world-class dining, and unforgettable experiences. And as far as style goes, Nobu Hotel Marbella is an ultimate spot for a next-level getaway. Sitting on Marbella’s famous Golden Mile, this property is all about sleek sophistication, designed for seamless transitions from dinner to cocktails to a night out, all within the resort. With over 15 restaurants catering to every craving, you’ve got Dani García’s Leña, sushi at Nobu, or a long lunch at Chiringuito Puente Romano nearby overlooking the beach. And when the sun sets, start with cocktails at La Plaza, where DJs set the tone for the night, then move on to COYA, one of Marbella’s most exclusive nightclubs. Of course, every girls’ trip needs a little balance. Mornings start with sunrise yoga by the beach or a session at the state-of-the-art gym, followed by a revitalising treatment at Six Senses Spa, where deep-tissue massages and holistic therapies bring a much-needed reset. Take that girls getaway dream out of the WhatsApp group and get planning.
reemies, the much-loved, small batch bakery from Reem Abu Samra, has just opened its very first bricks-and-mortar site on London’s Fulham Road, introducing its famous Banana Bundt, and other joyful bakery favourites to the streets of Chelsea. Reem has become renowned for her bakes and cakes across London, and has brought her signature flavours and techniques to the bakery, with an ethos centred around the nostalgia and textures of home baking. The bakery, with its vibrant pink & red exterior, and signature banana signage, exudes Reem’s quirk and creativity. You can take your cakes away with some freshly brewed coffee, or dine in at the bakery counter, with space for three atop bundt-shaped stools.
We know our workout gear can make us feel good, maybe even encourage us to work out if that sunshine just makes us feel like an al fresco drink and skipping it. If ever there was a real motivation to workout, this might just be it – Celine has revealed their pilates collection, rendering the exercise’s essential accessories in the designer’s deeply luxurious style. There is a sheepskin and Triomphe canvas-clad reformer machine, a cork yoga mat and block, and an array of weights, from an impossibly chic lambskin kettlebell to dumbells and weighted bracelets. Alongside this, an array of activewear has also been launched from sports bras and cycling shorts in seamless technical jersey to viscose crop tops and leggings. There really is no other way to upgrade your workout.
Add a full cultural immersion this week with an exclusive ‘Meet the Artists’ event showcasing a selection of talent from Partnership Editions, the renowned curators of exceptional art by the most-wanted emerging artists, who will be available for private appointments throughout the day. Held at The Surprise in Chelsea, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the artists themselves, learn about their creative process and view some of their exceptional works in an intimate setting. Artists include ceramicist and sculptor Lucy Whitford known for her acanthus leaf vessels that tell human stories of fragility, strength, and tenderness, Anne-Marie Williamson, the London-based artist whose unique practice combines embroidery, painting and quilting, Fanny Schultz, a ceramic artists based in the Swedish countryside who creates handmade tiles and vases, abstract artist Josefin Tolstoy from Sweden whose paintings are both expressive and vulnerable and so many more. The evening will see Tabby Booth hold an interactive painting workshop upstairs The Hamilton Room. Tabby will guide participants through her creative techniques and explore artistic expression.
