Views And Vibes At Silversands Beach House In Grenada

Silversands Beach House, an intimate getaway in Grenada, pairs the laid-back Caribbean island’s favourite pastime of guiltlessly kicking back – “liming” – with world-class style and sophistication.

Picture this: A tranquil bay protected by lush nature, fruity rum punches, the soundtrack of gentle waves and chirping frogs, a day filled with nothing but good vibes and indulgence.

Now add to that warm and thoughtful service, cuisine with the finest ingredients, the serenity of an intimate pocket in a buzzy beach town and the plush comforts of world-class hospitality and style. This is how boutique-brand Silversands marries the best of Grenada for an atmosphere of leisurely extravagance.

The Vibe

Silversands Beach House was created in a minimalistic, modern style unlike much else you’ll see in Grenada, and attracts a chic, sophisticated set of international travellers. Vibey without being tiring, there’s just the right amount of energy around this intimate property, where clean white stand-alone rooms tumble down a steep hill to languid Portici Beach. The whites and muted sandy tones let the surrounding bay and lush tropical hills take centre stage, but the streamlined resort architecture still manages to pop like it’s a glam Bond villain lair tucked away in a far-away landscape.

The Rooms

It’s hard to go wrong in any of the 28 rooms (but 30 keys, as each of the bedrooms in the two two-bedroom villas also have their own key and entrance). Every living space is modern with clean lines, muted white and sand tones, floor-to-ceiling wrap-around windows and doors, and sail-like canopies over the spacious terrace or balcony — reminiscent of a Maldivian private-island resort. The views are impeccable no matter your location and even the Island View rooms still boast great vistas of the cove.

The Beachfront Junior Suites offer the closest thing to an overwater-villa experience, with the gentle surf just steps from your door and a view from the bed that makes it look as if you’re perched above the sea. Inside, décor is minimal but thoughtful, with sculpture-like bedside lamps that gently light and dim at the touch of a finger, Villeroy & Bosch hardware in the bathroom, a Yamaha soundbar, and a motion-sensor light above the minibar.

The Food + Drink

The resort’s sole restaurant is beachfront Azzurro, which is open for all meals and specialises in Italian cuisine. Pastas are made fresh and pizzas come piping-hot from a wood-fired oven; for something a little more local there are a variety of dishes with regional fish such as red snapper and mahi-mahi.

You’re not limited to Azzurro, however, with luxury vehicles ready to transfer you to sister resort Silversands Grand Anse just 10 minutes away. There, you can try flavourful Thai cuisine made with island ingredients at Asiatique, where the five-spice chocolate mousse makes the most of Grenada’s flavours for a great finish. And next to the hotel’s long pool, Grenadian Grill is ideal for lunch fare such as fish tacos and conch fritters.

The Spa

Beach House features one private treatment room for spa experiences, but most go to Silversands Grand Anse for the full spa. A wide-reaching spa menu features everything from Egyptian psammotherapy and locally inspired treatments to indulgent facials with 111SKIN products and body wraps. My expertly administered signature massage was enhanced by taking place on a heated quartz sand table to further release tension, and the massage itself combined Asian techniques with a house-made oil of clove, bay leaf and tea tree — all of which left my muscles feeling delightfully refreshed. Leave yourself time to use the spa’s gym, dry sauna, steam room, ice room, experiential shower, ice-cold bucket shower, pool and plush cabanas.

The Little Extras

There are a number of gorgeous touches at Silversands Beach House, from the necklace made from local spices and nuts given to me upon arrival to a delicate bracelet that doubles as your room key. And you must take the time to look at the art – not only in your room, but placed around the property – an eye-catching mix of paintings and sculptures by Grenadian and Egyptian artists (the Egyptian touches in the art as well as the spa come by way of Silversands’ Egyptian owner).

The To-Do List

Set sail on Silversands’ luxury speedboat, 44-foot Blade that comes equipped with a barbecue and two cabins. Not only does this offer a whole new vantage point to check out the island’s jungle-lined cliffs and picturesque beaches, but it’s the most comfortable way to access Grenada’s famed Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park, where you can dive or snorkel to discover some 75 sculptures that began being placed here in 2006 to help restore the coral damage Molinere Bay suffered from 2004’s Hurricane Ivan. Neighbouring Flamingo Bay is another stop for excellent snorkelling through a thriving and colourful coral forest. On land, the resort offers plenty more options for exploration and discovery in hiking excursions, Jeep adventures and introductions to the local flavours at chocolate and tea tastings.
