We know how much mums love and need a little bit of self care from time to time. So, every month, Citizen Enfants will be checking into (and checking out) treatments for mums and mums-to-be. This time it’s the Dr David Jack Pregnancy Facial.
With therapies designed for pregnancy and postnatal, and including those with hormone balancing, mood boosting and – most of all – relaxing results, these treatments focus on women’s wellbeing as they navigate the physical and emotional demands of motherhood.
THE LOWDOWN
One of the most frustrating things about managing your skincare and beauty routine while pregnant is that so many treatments and ingredients are off-limit. From retinols and salicylic acid to essential oils, certain products are a no-go for nine months. But, while some women find their skin glows during pregnancy, others can experience the opposite and find it a time when they need good skin care and great treatments more than ever.
As one of the UK’s leading and most sought-after skin experts, Dr David Jack has collaborated with his in-house Women’s Health expert Dr. Jo Mennie, and Head Aesthetician Izabela Pawlitka to create a Pregnancy Wellness Programme. A key element of this is the excellent Pregnancy Facial that specifically targets the skin concerns that may pop up when you are expecting, such as melasma and hormonal acne.
WHO IS THE TREATMENT FOR?
This facial is ideal for women throughout pregnancy and into the postnatal stage, when they may be breastfeeding. Using pregnancy-safe products, and without compromising on results, the aim is to give women the confidence and reassurance to take care of their skin while pregnant.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT ENTAIL?
First you will have a detailed consultation with an experienced practitioner to discuss your skin concerns and what you hope to achieve from the facial. All facials start with a deep cleanse, and then it’s on to more targeted elements. This treatment is one of the few on the market that safely incorporates a peel by using pregnancy- and breastfeeding-safe azelaic acid, resulting in a visibly more even skin tone afterwards.
Alongside this you’ll enjoy a sculpting massage which focuses on lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce any puffiness and swelling. Then there is the option of dermaplaning; a relatively new, but very popular procedure that uses a sterile scalpel to gently exfoliate the skin and remove fine peach-fuzz-like hair. It’s also known to smooth out skin texture – and can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and is a non-painful, non-invasive treatment that helps reveal a smoother and brighter complexion. Extraction of black heads and pimples can be done if necessary, followed by a hydrating mask, vitamin C serum, and SPF.
As well as effectively addressing your skin’s needs, this is also a very relaxing session where you (and your bump) will be made to feel comfortable and supported in an adjustable and reclining massage chair. Taking place in one of Dr David Jack’s stylish clinics, the facial lasts an hour and can be booked as a standalone session or with other pregnancy-safe treatments. Discuss with your practitioner whether a course of facials would be beneficial; they’ll also be able to suggest products you might like to use at home. Ultimately, you’ll walk away feeling that you’ve truly helped your skin as well as indulged in some mum-to-be pampering.
