CF's June 2025 Sustainable Edit

Welcome to Citizen Femme’s June 2025 Sustainable Edit, showcasing the sustainable collectives on our radar this month.

Including a secluded hideaway on the shores of a lagoon in southern Mozambique, a responsible clothing brand that prioritises people and the planet, and an intimate neighbourhood restaurant that boasts a menu full of sustainable and seasonal local ingredients – these are a few of the names making a positive change this June.

FASHION

SESSÙN

For its summer collection, Sessùn draws inspiration from the charm of ancient Venetian palaces, mixing Italian romance with a fresh, modern vibe for an easy, sun-soaked summer wardrobe. The collection takes a nostalgic trip through history, celebrating tradition, craftsmanship, and the beauty of things that age gracefully. Faded colours, vintage-inspired patterns, and classic linens are all reimagined with contemporary volumes, and always in meticulously selected fabrics that adhere to the brands sustainability ethos. Sessùn is committed to using more responsible, less polluting fibres and, whenever possible, natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and wool are prioritised, not only for their durability and quality but also the fact they are renewable resources. Wherever possible, the brand avoids synthetic materials such as polyester, acrylic and nylon, opting instead for recycled and certified alternatives – like Repreve, a fibre made with post-consumer plastic bottles that are transformed into recycled polyester thread.

BEAUTY

Wildsmith

‘This packaging will never become waste!’. That’s the big eco-friendly statement from luxury skincare brand Wildsmith as it announced its first-of-a-kind 100 per cent home compostable packaging (in partnership with innovative packaging brand Shellworks). Each pot now has the durability and strength of plastic – so you don’t have to worry about the flimsy, spill-like nature of traditional eco-friendly packets – but when popped into home compost, it gently breaks down without a trace, bringing your beauty routine’s environmental impact right, right down. Best of all for eco-friendly beauty hunters who don’t want to compromise, inside each new pot are still the results-driven formulas we love, including the Active Repair Copper Peptide Cream that leaves your skin smooth and radiant. What’s more, in a bid to showcase a continued commitment to transparency, the company has also released a full 2024 Impact Report, emphasising its focus on protecting the planet, even while making exciting new moves into the US market. STAY

SUSSURRO

On the secluded shores of a warm turquoise lagoon in southern Mozambique, Sussurro is a carefully crafted retreat that invites connection with nature and a deeper, more meaningful travel experience. With a deep respect for both nature and community, Sussurro engages with the land through a mindful, intuitive approach – encouraging a slower pace that allows for genuine connection and mutual nourishment. Every aspect of the experience is designed to be non-intrusive, preserving the integrity of the local ecosystem, cultural landscape and the local community. The project was built on clear commitments: everything is 100 per cent African-sourced and made. Interiors feature furniture crafted and carved on-site, along with carefully selected artisanal pieces from across sub-Saharan Africa – all constructed and serviced by the local community. The property operates entirely on renewable energy, eliminates single-use plastics, and prioritises organic practices wherever possible. Sussurro also supports sustainable artisanal fishing and local farming, ensuring that each element of the guest experience contributes to a more conscious and regenerative form of travel.

JEWELLERY

LÖF

Founded last year, Los Angeles based jewellery brand LÖF, prides itself on its sustainability credentials – an intrinsic part of the jewellery brand’s identity. Precious gemstones are sourced with the utmost care; prioritising natural and ethically mined stones, working with suppliers who uphold stringent labor and environmental standards, and ensuring that every stone used is free from conflict as well as extracted with minimal ecological impact. Additionally, recycled metals are integrated into the designs, reducing the demand for newly mined materials and helping to close the loop on waste in the jewellery industry. As part of Ostrom Climate, collaborative efforts – including investment in carbon removal initiatives, circularity programs, and transparent reporting – are made in order to measure, reduce, and offset their carbon footprint.

EAT

SEASONALITY

A hop and skip from London (on the Elizabeth Line) and you’ll find yourself in Maidenhead, Berkshire – a notoriously foodie county, with the nearby village of Bray playing home to two of the UK’s eight three-Michelin starred restaurants. Here, you’ll also find Seasonality, an independently run restaurant by husband and wife duo, Wesley and Francesca Smalley. What started out as a shop for seasonal, restaurant quality produce and dine-at-home boxes, has now become a bright and airy neighbourhood restaurant serving up delicious ingredient-led dishes Wednesday-Saturday. Recognised by the Michelin Guide, the restaurant is fuss-free – eschewing white tablecloths in favour of a more convivial, relaxed atmosphere that lets the food speak for itself. Book a seat at the chef’s counter, where Wesley cooks right in front of you – showcasing his passion for seasonal ingredients and his unique Asian influence, shaped by a childhood spent in Hong Kong. Seasonality’s take on a ‘katsu’, made with poussin and a delicately spiced sauce, will be the prettiest, – and best – version of the dish you’ll eat. And don’t miss the prawn and pollack crudo, delicately spiced with chilli, paired with lightly pickled apricots and drenched in a creamy buttermilk sauce. Working directly with local biodynamic farm Waltham Place ensures sustainable and fresh ingredients are the stars of the menu throughout – evident in the plating, as well as on the palate.
