Kylie Minogue: This Is What Makes The Perfect Summer Rosé

Eight years ago, Kylie Minogue was drinking a glass of rosé outside in a sweltering Nashville when she decided she wanted to enter the wine business.

She had spent the day recording her album Golden and had chosen to unwind with a cool glass of everyone’s favourite blush-toned drink. “I remember holding the glass and just thinking how beautiful it was and I said out loud ‘I’d love to have my own rosé’,” she says. “Three years later, that dream was realised.”

Although Kylie is certainly not the first celebrity to enter the wine world, few have done so more successfully. Kylie Minogue Wines, which now also includes white, red and Prosecco, has since sold a staggering 20 million bottles globally, across 32 countries. In 2022, her pink fizz became the UK’s top-selling branded Prosecco rosé, and an astute decision to enter the growing non-alcoholic drinks market also paid off. Sales of her 0% sparkling amount to over 50 per cent of the UK’s zero per cent wine market. If you’re drinking NA wine this summer, there’s a strong chance it’ll have come via Kylie. “I am incredibly proud of [these figures] and honestly a bit blown away by them,” she says. “More than anything, it shows we have created something truly special that people connect with.”

Her portfolio is expanding still. To celebrate the company’s fifth anniversary, the pop star and businesswoman has introduced a new limited-edition Côtes des Provence rosé, which if previous launches are anything to go by, will prove just as popular. Drinking a glass of rosé in the sunshine is a summer holiday ritual for so many of us, and one of the easiest ways to create that vacation feeling if you’re unable to travel. Over the past few years, Kylie’s learnt a lot about wine, meeting experts from around the world to create varieties the public can’t get enough of. Here, she shares her guide to finding the perfect rosé with us, including what to look for, what to serve it with and whether the colour really matters. Let rosé season commence.

What key components make a great rosé in 2025?

“For me, it always comes down to balance, elegance and enjoyment. A great rosé can enhance a moment, like a little celebration in a glass, but it also needs authenticity – it should be a true reflection of where it’s from. Working with producers across the world, I’ve come to really appreciate that each wine has its own distinct character, shaped by the terroir. That’s part of the magic. Our latest addition to the range, our Côtes de Provence rosé, is a perfect example. It’s beautifully pale, with a refined texture and that signature dry minerality that makes rosés from this region so iconic. The Mediterranean climate, the sun-drenched grapes, and the precision of the winemaking all come together to create something incredibly balanced, expressive, and quietly sophisticated. Our rosés really capture that elegance and ease I love – beautifully crafted, but never overcomplicated.”

What should we be looking for?

“When choosing a rosé, look for balance and brightness – you want something that’s refreshing, expressive, and not overly sweet. For me, it’s all about a crisp, elegant finish, with layers of subtle fruit and floral notes that don’t overwhelm the palate. That said, don’t be afraid to explore. The real joy of wine is in the discovery. Trying wines from different regions and meeting the people behind the wines is one of my favourite parts of the experience. And, if that first sip brings a little smile then I think you’ve found a good one.”

How important is colour when choosing a great rosé? Is it true that the darker the shade the lower quality it is?

“Colour definitely plays a part – it’s the first thing you notice! A lot of people associate pale rosé with elegance and quality, especially because of the beautiful styles that come out of places like Côtes de Provence. That delicate, blush-pink hue is a visual cue for something fresh, dry, and refined. A darker rosé doesn’t necessarily means lower quality though. Colour depends on the grape variety, the region, and how the wine is made. Some deeper coloured rosés are bolder in flavour and body, and they can be absolutely delicious – just a different expression. It’s all a matter of choice and taste. Personally, I have a soft spot for those very pale, rose-petal pinks that are so often linked with top-quality southern French rosé – they just feel so effortlessly elegant.”

How chilled should it be? What difference does the temperature make in how rosé tastes?

“Theres nothing better than a glass of chilled rosé on a summer’s day. My journey with wine actually started back in the early 90s, when my then boyfriend and I took a trip through the South of France and Italy. I was 21, and it was my first time experiencing that world – everything felt so new, glamorous, and exciting. That’s when I first really fell in love with wine and began to understand how much it can enhance a moment, a place, a feeling. Since then, I’ve learnt so much, and one thing that really surprised me is just how much of a difference temperature makes. I love a chilled rosé, but if it’s too cold, it can actually mute all those beautiful flavours. If it’s been in a fridge, just give it a few minutes to subtly shift the wine temperature before serving and let the aromas really open up.”

What dishes work best with rosé?

“Rosé is wonderfully versatile, and I tend to choose different styles depending on the occasion. For a dinner party with friends, I love starting the night with my Prosecco rosé paired with fresh canapés like crostini or smoked salmon with cream cheese. For a cozy night with friends, my signature rosé goes perfectly with a Niçoise salad. When I’m celebrating something special, there’s nothing better than toasting with a glass of the Côtes de Provence alongside some beautiful seafood. Salt baked sea bass at a restaurant. And for those times when I want to keep things light, whether before a show or just being mindful, I love a glass of my 0% alcohol sparkling rosé. It pairs perfectly with lighter bites like fresh salads or sushi; it’s a beautiful, versatile option that suits any occasion without feeling like you’re missing out.”

How would you describe your fifth anniversary special Côtes de Provence?

“Our fifth anniversary Côtes de Provence rosé feels like the perfect way to celebrate five years of Kylie Minogue Wine – the passion, the dedication, and all the joy that’s gone into every drop. Over the years, I’ve developed such a deep appreciation for wine and the incredible work involved at every stage – from vineyard to bottle. I love being hands-on with everything: blending, selection, tasting, all the way through to packaging and design. It captures the unique character of the region with that signature minerality and the Mediterranean climate. It’s beautifully delicate and elegant, with subtle floral and citrus notes, a refined, silky texture – a perfect harmony, and a wine made for celebrating.”

Now five years into the wine business, what key lessons have you learnt about what makes a good wine?

“The more I learn about wine, the more I appreciate just how much there is to discover. It’s such an intricate and fascinating world. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the most respected winemakers in the world, and they’ve taught me that great wine always begins with care and quality. I love being hands-on at every stage – from tasting, the blending, down to the design of the label. For me, a great wine is all about balance – it should be expressive and elegant, but ultimately, it should bring joy – a quiet moment to yourself or shared moments with loved ones. That emotional connection is what I always come back to.”

Have your preferences changed in terms of what you like drinking?

“The more I’ve immersed myself in the world of wine, the more my palate has developed. I’ve always loved rosé, but there are so many varietals and styles. I’m constantly learning. One of the first things I learnt on my wine journey is that there are no wrong questions. Ask away! Wine has such depth and variety – you never stop discovering.”

Which is your favourite wine and why?

“That’s always such a hard question – but right now, I’d have to say our Côtes de Provence rosé from Notre-Dame des Anges. To be celebrating that with a wine from such a prestigious appellation feels incredibly meaningful. It’s everything I love in a rosé – pale, elegant, and full of character. More than anything, it represents how far we’ve come. I’m so proud of what we’ve built at Kylie Minogue Wines and this wine really captures the spirit of that journey.”
