Welcome to The Conscious Citizen – CF’s monthly spotlight on the most inspiring sustainable collectives paving the way in mindful innovation and impact.
Including an English countryside hotel that’s redefining luxury hospitality, a consciously crafted fashion brand that prioritises organic and natural fibres, and a Cornish sea-front restaurant serving sustainable locally caught fish and seafood – these are a few of the names making a positive change this August.
FASHION
Founded with a vision to bridge the gap between luxury and ethics, Beaumont Organic creates timeless, elevated essentials guided by sustainability. Based in the UK, the brand champions a thoughtful approach to fashion, from material sourcing to the relationships it nurtures with its makers. Each collection is crafted using GOTS-certified organic cotton, low-impact dyes, and carefully selected natural fibres. Extending their responsibility beyond the product itself, packaging is 100% recyclable, and the brand encourages circularity through their repair and rewear initiative – inviting customers to return worn items for mending or repurposing – as well as via the brand’s resale scheme. From limited production runs to plastic-free operations and carbon-offset commitments, here fashion is not about excess but instead a focus on eco-fabrics, transitional collections and sustainable practices that are kinder to the planet.
BEAUTY
BRIMM
Brimm is not just an online store for planet positive products, it’s trying to redefine the whole eco-conscious retail model too. That means, alongside helping you make more sustainable choices without compromising on style or effectiveness (for example, the Reset Boxes are like a Christmas selection box of must-try samples), the platform also has an editorial journal where inspiring stories are shared and member events include film screenings and workshops, to help make it easier (and more desirable) to build a more eco-friendly lifestyle. The company even puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to sustainability – committing 10% of all sales to help support the brands it stocks to improve their carbon footprints, pushing innovation in the industry forward. STAY
Located in Hampshire and surrounded by 438 acres of biodynamic farmland, Heckfield Place is shaping the future of regenerative hospitality. The estate is home to the UK’s first certified biodynamic hotel farm, with a closed-loop system that includes a micro-dairy, orchards, livestock, and a market garden – all supplying its restaurants (one of which has a green Michelin star) with seasonal, organic produce. Beyond its agroecological principles, Heckfield has invested in energy-efficient systems: biomass boilers, rainwater harvesting, and motion-sensitive LED lighting, contributing to the estate’s reduced environmental impact. The hotel operates almost entirely plastic-free, and food waste is either composted or transformed into biodiesel to fuel estate vehicles. Tucked within Heckfield Place’s walled garden, The Bothy by Wildsmith spa is a regenerative wellness retreat powered by nature – from chlorine-free, mineralised waters to treatments rooted in biodynamic botanicals grown on the estate.
JEWELLERY
PUPARI
Based in Brighton, Pupari is an independent jewellery brand redefining personal adornment through sustainability, craftsmanship, and character. Every piece is handmade using recycled sterling silver and gold, embracing a slow jewellery philosophy that values intention over mass production. At the heart of the brand is a commitment to thoughtful design: jewellery that feels special, celebrates individuality, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. From best-selling bunny rings to mini anatomical forms complete with their own piercings, Pupari’s collections are as witty as they are wearable, balancing the art of handmade jewellery with a sense of fun.
EAT
THE IDLE ROCKS
This summer, The Idle Rocks restaurant in St Mawes, Cornwall introduces Rosé on the Rocks, a seasonal dining experience set against the scenic backdrop of the Fal Estuary, with a carefully curated wine list in partnership with Whispering Angel. Under the direction of new head chef Carla Jones, the menu places Cornish seafood and local produce centre stage, honouring a sea-to-table philosophy rooted in provenance, quality, and minimal waste. Each dish reflects a conscious commitment to local sourcing – from day-boat fish caught by dedicated fisherman Gareth Austin, moored just across the harbour, to handpicked Porthilly oysters and seasonal vegetables grown nearby. Highlights include the delicately grilled St Mawes lobster with garlic butter, monkfish in satay sauce, and the kelp-buttered gurnard. The market fish counter invites guests to hand-select their preferred catch and speak directly with chef Carla for a tailored dish, a nod to the restaurant’s hands-on, low-impact approach to luxury dining.
