When you think of Miami, you think of sunlit beaches, pastel façades, Latin rhythms and bold design — but for families, Miami is so much more than a postcard.
Clarissa Egana, founded athleisure label Port de Bras celebrates 10 years since its launch. The brand itself is an expression of Clarissa’s vision: clothes that move with the body, made using biodegradable materials and infused with design details inspired by ballet and couture touches.
Born to Venezuelan parents and raised between Miami and Caracas, Clarissa draws on her dual identity to reveal an insider’s handbook for parents and children looking to experience Miami enjoying its different neighbourhoods and must-see family attractions (plus downtime for the adults of course).
Tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Clarissa Egana – Venezuelan/American. I’m a lawyer, a mom of two, a designer, and the entrepreneur behind Port de Bras, the luxury activewear brand. My world is a wonderful mix of family, fashion, wellness, and travel.

April is wonderful – the weather is perfect, the city is buzzing but not overcrowded and its just before the intense summer tourism season. Easter in Miami is truly special for families.
What is your favourite kid-friendly neighbourhood to explore in Miami?
Key Biscayne is magical — kids can safely ride their bikes, spend hours outdoors, and feel part of a warm community surrounded by nature and sports.
Which hotels should we check into for a family-friendly stay?
The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne is a must (re-opening December 2025). It combines resort luxury with a very family-friendly atmosphere.

And the best beaches to visit with children?
Collins Avenue North, near Bal Harbour, is gorgeous — calm, wide, white sand beaches and turquoise, clean waters perfect for families.
The only place that locals know about?
The Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park lighthouse area in Key Biscayne — kids love exploring trails, picnicking under the palms, and seeing the historic lighthouse right by the water.
How do you navigate the city with kids?
Definitely renting an SUV! Miami isn’t stroller-friendly everywhere and I wouldn’t recommend public transportation. It’s best to park comfortably and then walk around. The most scenic areas for me are Coconut Grove’s bayside or Brickell’s waterfront — the views are stunning.
What are your top 3 must-do activities in Miami for kids?
These 3 are unmissable! A boat ride through Biscayne Bay, kayaking in Coconut Grove and the bike park on Virginia Key.
Are there any classic attractions that are unmissable?
Jungle Island (Parrot Jungle), Miami Children’s Museum, and the Museum of Ice Cream — all Miami classics that kids love.
And ones that are worth avoiding?
The Seaquarium and the Zoo Miami — it makes me really sad to see animals in captivity.
What about great seasonal experiences?
Summer turtle hatchings on Key Biscayne beaches, holiday boat parades in December, and mango season in July when local farms open up for families.
What are your go-to spots for family-friendly dining?
Casual dinners at Greenstreet Cafe in Coconut Grove, picnic-style lunches at Crandon Park, and Italian nights at Casa Tua.
Any insider snack spots, bakeries, or sweet treats that kids love (and adults too)?
Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop in Wynwood (their pies are iconic), Frieze Ice Cream Factory in Miami Beach, and Madruga Bakery for croissants the kids devour.

Your favourite places to shop for kids?
Multi-brand boutiques in Merrick Park and South Miami — they always have amazingly curated, stylish pieces.
And to shop for yourself?
Coconut Grove for local finds, At Ease on Sunset for elevated essentials, and of course The Miami Design District for fashion and art under one roof. I avoid closed malls like Aventura, and Dadeland, but they do have great shopping and offers if you’er tempted to venture out a little further.
If mums have a few hours sans enfants where should they go?
A spa afternoon at Tierra Santa in the Faena Hotel or a long lunch with girlfriends at Mandolin Aegean Bistro in the Design District.
What’s something about Miami with kids that surprises you?
How truly family-oriented it is! Beyond the nightlife reputation, Miami is filled with playgrounds, outdoor activities, and a strong sense of community.
What’s one moment with your kids you’ll never forget?
Watching baby turtles hatch and run to the sea at sunset on our backyard beach in Key Biscayne — it was pure magic.
If a family only had one day in Miami, how would you spend it?
I’d spend the morning at Miami Beach, followed by lunch and strolling Lincoln Road, and an afternoon on a boat soaking in the bay views.
Why is Miami a wonderful family destination?
It’s friendly, sunny, hip, joyful, and diverse — with endless wellness spots, family activities, and even pet-friendly spaces. Miami lets kids (and parents) live fully outdoors.
