Looking for a Barcelona itinerary that keeps wellness at its heart? This is the CF guide on where to stay, relax and spa in the Spanish city…
What I love about Barcelona is that it helps me meet the version of myself that exists beyond deadlines and deliverables. And it should be no surprise that a country known for long lunches, rich culture and a vibrant art community is also a hub for innovative health and wellness practices.
Without any need to totally cut yourself off from the world, there’s an ease when staying in Barcelona that I’ve yet to find the words to explain. I let my feet guide me through the streets, my morning coffee from my favourite barista at Nomad coffee in hand, only stopping to appreciate the beauty of a tree that’s older than my neighbourhood back home. It could be the North American in me speaking, but there’s something deeply romantic about walking through history. It’s impossible not to fall in love with cobblestone pathways and aged brick houses, when everything you’re used to is steel, glass and cold cement. Â
Consistently ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world, Barcelona is also a global leader in health innovation. With over 300,000 trees in the city and countless green spaces, the city seamlessly blends wellness, art, and everyday living. It’s also a haven for beauty and wellness lovers with world-renowned practitioners that balance innovation with traditional self-care. What I love most about the wellness practices in Barcelona is that they encompass all of you. A facial is never just about your skin. Scent is part of your outfit, and lunch? That’s a social event.Â
If you’re planning a trip to Barcelona soon, here are a few ideas to add to your wellness-inspired itinerary.
1. For travel-sore bodies: Lymphatic drainage massage with Lisa SantameraÂ

As a frequent traveller, lymphatic drainage massages are a standard part of my self-care practice. But of all the massages I’ve received, I’m yet to find one that compares to the one I received from Lisa Sanatamera. I booked the 90-minute full body and face treatment, and somewhere between minute 30 and minute 65, it felt like I was levitating off the table. For Lisa, a big part of the treatment is to help the body relax to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and support the body in its healing. Through soothing, rhythmic strokes, the treatment gently stimulates the lymphatic system, guiding fluid through the pathways and nodes to remove stagnant waste. What makes Lisa’s treatments so different is her knowledge of the body and how deeply she attunes the treatment to each patient’s individual needs.Â
2. For shopping a signature scent: The Perfumery BarcelonaÂ

Whether you’re looking for a new perfume or just want to be inspired by an aesthetically refined shop, Perfumery Barcelona is worth a visit. Think of it as a private showroom for scent. The space offers an intimate and luxurious sensory experience that’s determined to change how you think about fragrance. Each bottle feels like a work of art and every scent story is curated to evoke emotion and memory, and to leave a lasting impression. It’s an opportunity to buy a different kind of souvenir, too, so definitely add it to your group wellness itinerary if you are in Barcelona with your girl friends.Â
3. For a body reset: Aire Ancient Baths, BarcelonaÂ

After a long flight, or a day of exploring a new city, I love heading to the nearest thermal bath experience to help my body reset. Set in a historic building just like the other beautiful Aire outposts you can find across the globe, Aire Ancient Baths Barcelona has multiple bathing options that engage your senses, from warm saltwater pools to icy plunges and steam rooms scented with eucalyptus. The space is dimly lit, illuminated mostly by candles that flicker off the centuries-old stone walls, creating a cocoon of calm beneath the city’s bustle. Each pool is designed to guide you through a journey, from the weightless float of the salt bath to the grounding warmth of the thermal pools. For an even deeper nervous system reset, consider pairing your soak with a massage – you won’t regret it.Â
4. For a brilliant facial: Vagus-Nerve Beauty Connection with Mariona VilanovaÂ

At Mariona Vilanova Atelier, it’s also about the nervous system. The Vagus-Nerve Beauty Connection was designed to create harmony in the face and soothe the autonomic nervous system by moving the body into a meditative state and balancing energy meridians. The senior facialists have all been expertly trained by A-list celebrity facialist Mariona Vilanova herself, and adapt each treatment to the unique needs of each patient. Expect to leave sculpted, relaxed and less tense.Â
5. For a good night’s sleep (and a long lunch): Kimpton Vividora Hotel

Finally, a good trip always starts with the right hotel, and the Kimpton Vividora will always be one I keep coming back to – not least because it is also home to a really lovely spa. It’s quietly tucked away in the city’s vibrant Gothic Quarter, and is within walking distance to some of the best parts of Barcelona. The rooms are also an experience of their own, with deep soaker bathtubs, gorgeous colouring, and balconies that allow you to enjoy the sounds and sights of the city with your morning cappuccino. One day during my stay, I opted to have lunch at the Fauna restaurant, located on the ground floor of the hotel, and it’s there that I was introduced to Spain’s signature long lunch. It could be a residual effect of my time in a newsroom, but in my adult life, I’ve only ever known working lunches. Spain taught me otherwise. At Fauna, I had a nearly three-hour, five-course lunch that changed how I saw dining. It wasn’t a meal, it was a wellness ritual.
