3. Lord Mayor’s Show

On Saturday 8 November, the historic parade will wind its way through the City of London from around 11 am, featuring over 7,000 participants, more than 50 floats and marching bands, and a route stretching some three miles. This year marks a special milestone — the first time the event is titled the “Lady Mayor’s Show” as Dame Susan Langley becomes the 697th Lord Mayor (and the first to formally take the title “Lady Mayor”). Top tip: Catch the outward Procession (11 am – 12 pm) between Bank station and St Paul’s Cathedral when the energy is high, there’s lots to see (floats, bands, horses), so it’s perfect if your kids are excited and you don’t mind crowds.

Address: Across London

4. Shrek’s Adventure

Located on London’s South Bank, Shrek’s Adventure! London is an immersive, walk-through experience. Visitors board a “4D flying bus” and journey through a series of live shows and interactive scenes in the fairy-tale world of Far Far Away — hearing, touching, seeing and even smelling the adventure. The experience takes roughly 45-60 minutes. While younger children are welcome, the recommended age is approximately 6-12 years, due to some darker or more theatrical elements like witches and special-effects.

5. RSC’s My Neighbour Totoro

Catch multi-award-winning My Neighbour Totoro, the widely acclaimed adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s animated feature film, at its new home in the West End. Join sisters Satsuki and Mei as they move to their curious new home in the countryside. Exploring their unfamiliar surroundings, they soon encounter a world of spirits, sprites and magical creatures. Maybe it was all a dream? Or perhaps they really are now friends with the giant, ancient protector of the forest named Totoro and his friend the Catbus…
