What To Do With Children In London This Weekend: 14-16 November

Winter markets, Christmas lights and ice skating.

This is all we’re planning this weekend. So newborns to teens can all be entertained and satiated with plenty of festive fun.

1. Southbank Winter Market

The Winter Market at Southbank Centre transforms the riverside Southbank Centre into a festive wonder of alpine‑style wooden chalets, twinkling lights and cosy pop‑up bars where you can wander, eat and drink by the River Thames. Expect a delicious mix of street‑food (duck wraps, truffle burgers, churros) and independent craft stalls selling unique gifts, all set against a lively riverside backdrop.

2. Chelsea Lights Switch-On

The Chelsea Christmas Lights Switch‑On takes place along the King’s Road (from Sloane Square to Walpole Street) this Saturday 15 November . The celebration features a festive market, live performances, fun for kids (face‑painting, cookie‑decorating) and ends with a magical light‑switch moment at around 5 pm. Arrive in the afternoon to explore the stalls and soak up the atmosphere, then stay for the big light‑moment as the trees and stores glow and music fills the air.

3. Christmas Lights Bus Tour

As the Christmas lights start coming on around London, take children on the Big Bus Tours “London Christmas Lights Tour” with departures from 4:00 pm (and later) from the London Eye area, ideal for catching the lights before it gets too late. Children under 4 travel free if not occupying a seat.

The Ever After Garden is a moving installation of over 30,000 illuminated white roses set up in London each winter, inviting visitors to reflect on loved ones who’ve passed away by dedicating a rose in their memory. This year (2025) it moves to a new location at Duke of York Square in Chelsea, and opens this weekend on 13 November until 16 December daily from 3pm to 9pm.
