What To Do With Children This January: Recommendations from the CE Team

January always feels like a fresh page, and behind the scenes, our editorial team embraces it with as much enthusiasm as our kids bring to their favourite shows and cosy days at home.

We’re diving into winter wonder with stories, crafts, and bright eyes on snowy adventures, we’re mapping out a family ski escape that promises laughter on the slopes to London grown up shows that kids will embrace. And somewhere between ski school and sledding, there’s a promise of quiet moments and wellness for Mama, because renewal in the new year isn’t just about where you go, but how you feel when you get there.

TRAVEL I am taking my kids to Puerto Rico, hoping to check out the historic Old San Juan forts to El Yunque rainforest spotting coquí frogs and waterfalls, and beautiful beaches of course. USE I’m enjoying using the LSW Mind Cards with my kids. Each day they select a card at random and take the action stated on the card. They understand their emotions and kick the day off with a great attitude. PLAY All have been spoiled by Father Christmas with a new Robud play kitchen, its excellent quality and looks great, so hours of fun on all fronts. USE Having spent so much time in the ocean, my children are now utterly obsessed with swimming. So as we continue swim classes, they’re really enjoying Melody the Mermaid and Salty the Shark goggles. LEARN We are in various alphabet and reading stages of learning. These mini ABC lollipops actually give plenty of exciting learning time, along with with these wooden blocks to build words. TRY I love Vivobarefoot for kids |(and adults actually). Comfortable, but great for building strength, balance and posture from the ground up. So I have a pair for the 2 out-the-door-runners and almost-walking in my family (and for me and my husband too).

STAY At Pan Pacific London for a city break that caters for the whole family. Its convenient location makes for the perfect base for exploring the capital, while the 5 star amenities are ideal for guests of all ages. One lucky reader can win a stay for the whole family by entering here. DINE The Mayfair Chippy is taking a step back in time this January and offering their Mayfair Classic fish and chips dish for the same price as when the restaurant opened in 2015 – just £13.50. Available from their Knightsbridge location Sunday-Wednesday, it’s a budget-friendly refuelling stop after a day exploring the museums with little ones. BOOK Ice-skating at Beaverbrook in Surrey is on until the 1st February and we’re planning a family day out to make the most of the extended winter opening. Their signature ice skating experience includes a 45-minute skate, a festive rink-side treat, and a set menu in one of Beaverbrook’s restaurants. It’ll be our little one’s first experience on the ice and what a place to experience it – it sure beats the indoor ice-rinks of my youth! BUY I love Organic Zoo’s prints and this sweatshirt is a current favourite being worn on repeat, along with these fun printed long sleeved tees from Next which are ideal for nursery days. EAT Crosta Mollica’s latest Collezione Romana pizza’s are genuinely the best shop-bought pizzas (in my opinion), made with proper Italian ingredients. Their sourdough pizza bases are also great for DIY pizza nights where your little one can add their own toppings.

BOOK The British makers behind Wallace and Gromit are the focus of the V&A Young’s new exhibition, which opens on 12 February. I’m booking now so he can truly immerse himself in the world of two of his favourite characters. DO The Horniman museum closes its brilliant Creative Creatures space on 14 January, so I’ll making the most of it while I still can. It’s a real mix of imaginative, creative and physical play. GO The Natural History Museum is hosting a storytelling session for children under four on 20 January, involving messy play (which parents don’t have to clean up!), sensory props and a singalong session. Sounds like a perfect morning. READ Father Christmas generously gifted my toddler a copy of Miffy The Artist, and it really is the sweetest story – Miffy visits an art gallery and is inspired to become an artist herself. My boy loves it.

BOOK I always book lots of Christmas theatre trips for my children, but for this year I want to engage in more grown up theatre and ballet. I love the choreographer Wayne McGreggor, so am booking tickets for his Woolf Works, based on Virginia Woolf’s work, but also fancy My First Ballet: Cinderella at the London Coliseum for my kids in April as well as Paddington The Musical. WEAR I have been weightlifting for a year and feel so proud of my achievements: I’m inspiring myself to keep going with a new set of Adanola leggings and sweatshirt, and some Loewe x On trainers that look good enough to hang out in the café afterwards. READ Savannah Miller recently recommended to me The Safekeep, by Yael van der Wouden, which was published last year and it’s extraordinary – fans of Maggie O’Farrell will love the delicate character portrayal. WATCH … and speaking of O’Farrell, I can’t wait to see Hamnet at the cinema: it’s one of my favourite books about Shakespeare’s son and the lead up to his death (that’s not a spoiler – we find that out from the start). Last year I bought myself an Everyman membership to encourage myself to go to the cinema more: it feels like a real treat. CLEAN I’m in deep cleanse mode after Christmas and want to strip the house of everything superfluous and clean it from top to bottom. I love Purdy and Figg cleaning products for a fresh, natural smell that does contain any nasty chemicals. STAY I’ve just booked a last minute trip to Zurich: I’m staying at The Dolder Grand, a beautifully majestic hotel that looks out over the lake, which has an incredible wellness programme to kick start my new year intentions. EAT At this time of year I always fancy an easy reset – nothing too dramatic – and I find meal delivery kits a useful way to get back into good habits. I’ve booked Calo which offers very personalised plans from high protein to veggie to gut health-focused, and they’re delicious. I’m dreaming of the sanctioned millionaires shortbread already.

STAY
I’ve been meaning to rest and replenish with a stay at The Chancery Rosewood and try one of the EviDenS de Beauté face ceremonies at the Asaya Spa – the pool looks incredible. I would also love to drink in the design inspiration of the Belle Epoque-inspired Maison Proust hotel in Paris. READ My husband bought Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier for my daughter and I to read together so that is next on the list. I will also be investing in Assouline’s From Louis to Vuitton, a beautiful coffee table book is always a relatively-inexpensive way to add a new element to a room. WEAR Rather than expand my wardrobe, I want to broaden my everyday jewellery collection and be a bit more bold and minimalist. On my radar are Misho, Agmes and Anisa Sojka for clean, striking designs to wear with simple knitwear, my new uniform for when I’m working at home. I’m also going to be more polished when I’m dashing about, I want to wrap-up warm in my wear-with-everything Soft Goat oversized cashmere coat and try to maintain my manicures at the incredible So.Shell which has opened in Wimbledon. ATTEND It would be incredible to see Paul Simon at the Royal Albert Hall in May, so booking tickets from now. My youngest does a brilliant rendition of 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. BUY I’m in love with Wild at Heart’s new floral bouquets inspired by the new year – The First Light in soft yellow and the Awakening in pink. For 2026, I’d love to enjoy more fresh flowers at home. TRY I’m excited to try Lilibet’s seafood restaurant in Mayfair (named after Queen Elizabeth II). I’ve heard the food is as good as the wonderfully lavish interiors by Russell Sage Studio.
