The Conscious Citizen: CF's January Sustainable Edit

Welcome to The Conscious Citizen – CF’s monthly spotlight on the most inspiring sustainable collectives paving the way in mindful innovation and impact.

Including an LA-based fashion label committed to sustainability, an art and antiques studio that’ll quickly become your go-to for circular finds for your home, and a fine dining restaurant in the Berkshire countryside – these are a few of the names making a positive change this January.

FASHION

REFORMATION

Built on a commitment to doing better, Reformation is focused on long-term impact, from becoming climate positive to rethinking circularity across every stage of production. The majority of their collections are crafted using recycled, regenerative and renewable materials, with ongoing investment in next-generation fabrics designed to minimise environmental footprint without compromising on design. At the heart of Reformation’s approach is a belief in transparency and thoughtful progress. By reducing water and carbon intensity, improving factory practices and expanding take-back, repair and resale initiatives, the brand continues to refine what sustainable fashion looks like now. The result is a collection of pieces that feel as considered as they are covetable: fashion with longevity, intention and a lighter footprint. If, like us, you’ve been eyeing up the cashmere knits this winter, the fact that they’re made from 95 per cent recycled cashmere is exactly the justification you’ll need to head straight to checkout…

INTERIORS

DELPHIE STUDIO

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Delphie’s founder, Sarah – a former fashion journalist – was made redundant and, while daunting, the moment proved catalytic, creating the opportunity to take a long-considered leap to pursue a lifelong passion for sourcing antiques, art and one-of-a-kind finds. That passion began early: childhood weekends spent wandering car boot sales and family trips to flea markets across France fostered a deep appreciation for objects with history. This evolved into a belief that homes are enriched by considered, sustainable pieces with provenance, rather than mass-produced items without meaning. Using a small redundancy payout, Delphie began by sourcing pieces at auction and selling them via Instagram. As travel resumed, flea markets across Europe became a sourcing destination, relationships with trusted dealers were formed, and Sarah’s distinctive eye was refined. Today, Delphie sources from across the continent, with a particular love for Swedish art and antiques. Since its launch, Delphie has grown organically, working with interior designers and building lasting relationships with a loyal customer base. More recently, Delphie launched its website, introducing weekly drops designed to make shopping both easier and more intentional, driven by a belief in craftsmanship, sustainability and the joy of the find.

STAY

SOUTHERN OCEAN LODGE

Southern Ocean Lodge is carefully embedded into the dramatic clifftop landscape of Australia’s Kangaroo Island, with the vast majority of its 102-hectare site protected as untouched wilderness. A 20-metre-wide buffer of native, fire-retardant vegetation surrounds the property, supporting biodiversity while safeguarding the land for the future. Self-sufficiency is central to daily operations. Rainwater harvesting systems capture and store millions of litres of water, while solar generation and hybrid energy infrastructure significantly reduce reliance on diesel power. Intelligent design maximises natural light and ventilation, complemented by low-energy systems, heat pumps and LED lighting to minimise environmental impact without compromising comfort or the slick design of the property. In the kitchen, menus champion locally sourced, seasonal produce from Kangaroo Island and South Australia, celebrating the region’s growers, fishermen and farmers. Beyond the lodge, guests are invited to engage with the island’s conservation story through experiences that foster a deeper connection to its wildlife.

BEAUTY

Salvaterra is a new skincare brand putting sustainability at the very heart of luxury beauty while taking you on a luxurious trip to the Amazon via your skincare routine. Created in collaboration with experts in cosmetic science, biodiversity and sustainable innovation, it blends next-generation biotech actives with powerful Amazonian botanicals to deliver results you can see, feel and be confident are better for the planet too. One of Salvaterra’s most exciting innovations is that every formula is completely waterless. Instead of a traditional ‘aqua’ base, the brand uses cold-pressed bergamot juice, boosting ingredient potency while significantly reducing environmental impact. How? By eliminating the need to source, treat and transport large volumes of water, which significantly lowers energy use, carbon emissions and overall production waste. Best of all, the bergamot juice adds a fragrant and uplifting touch to your daily routine too. The newly launched collection features four thoughtfully designed essentials: a skin-firming Universal Serum, a glow-restoring Revitalising Cream, a vitamin-rich Radiance Oil and a nourishing balm-to-milk Cleansing Balm. All come in refillable glass packaging – once again keeping the planet’s natural resources in mind – and beyond the bottles themselves, Salvaterra works directly with Amazonian communities, supporting fair trade, education and long-term empowerment, particularly for women and girls. Proof that conscious beauty can be both effective and beautifully considered. Becki Murray

EAT

WOVEN BY ADAM SMITH

At Woven by Adam Smith, sustainability is quietly woven into every element of the experience. Guided by a forager’s mindset, the kitchen works in harmony with nature’s calendar, shaping an ever-evolving menu rooted in seasonality and local produce. Ingredients are hand-picked from Coworth Park’s estate and the surrounding countryside, from garden herbs and edible native flowers to estate-produced honey, alongside pickles, syrups and vinegars all preserved in-house. The restaurant’s design mirrors this ethos, with bespoke furniture made from recycled and natural materials: dining tables formed from layered recycled paper; stools fashioned from locally sourced oak; and statement bronze conkers as the centrepiece of each table in place of fresh flowers.
