Is dry January over? We think so. Bakeries are a new indulgence in London and we cannot resist an achingly brilliant brioche.
From irresistible pastries to table-top upgrades, unexpected supermarket dining (yes, really) and après-worthy ski chic, we’ve got your hotlist locked in.
Ski season is upon us, and ALO Atelier returns for its fourth season with a gorgeously curated collection of performance pieces in luxurious Italian wool, silk and cashmere. Inspired by Alpine escapes, après-ski glamour and wellness-driven living, the range transitions seamlessly from crisp mountain mornings to cosy evenings by the fire. With elevated winter silhouettes, Alpine-ready fabrics and a chic new accessories line, the collection defines refined seasonal style. Highlights include fresh colourways in the ALO Bag Collection and Atelier’s first-ever footwear, perfect for travellers seeking both functionality and sophisticated après flair.
There’s something about visiting a supermarket when you travel that excites even those of us who find day-to-day cooking mundane – all those new brands, products and tastes to explore! We also know that plenty of us ‘will travel for food’, some of us going as far as to base a destination choice on that one restaurant we really want to try. But sometimes you don’t need to travel to experience it all: London’s Supermarket of Dreams on Holland Park Avenue is merging the best of both experiences. This high-end-grocery-store by day turns high-energy restaurant by night and, until 31 March, is home to Robin’s Ramen, an experience-led evening headed up by Dorian chef Robin Kosuge, serving warming ramen dishes (pork, chicken, duck pistachio and lobster) from an open kitchen, alongside sharing plates including tuna tartare, prawn katsu bao and chicken or beef skewers. Seating is around the 24-person communal table or on smaller tables-for-two surrounding the edges of the restaurant. Opt for one of the latter and peel back the thick black curtains to really get a sense of where you are with a quick peek at the supermarket shelves. Katie Silcox
I love a table-decor upgrade as much as anyone. And you can trust Addison Ross to deliver a punch with a colourful statement piece. Their iconic designer salt and pepper mills have once again been elevated with the new Flute mills, sleek, cylindrical acrylic grinders that marry practical use with eye-catching tabletop flair. Available in six vibrant colourways – pink, pale pink, blue, amber, green and clear – these beautifully hued pieces invite readers to reimagine their tablescapes with objects that feel as much like décor as dining essentials, bringing warmth, elegance and a chic antidote to the January blues.
This winter, UK mental-health charity Beder has launched a striking public-awareness campaign across Central London, running through January until April, to promote free access to therapy via its Beder Therapy Voucher scheme. Ten iconic London black cabs have hit the streets wrapped in bespoke artwork by international artists, each carrying hopeful mental-health messages and a QR code linking to therapy voucher info. The vouchers, offered in partnership with therapy-matching platform Meela, give UK adults access to up to six 50-minute therapy sessions, delivered online or in person, with therapists matched for a strong fit. By turning everyday city taxis into moving canvases of encouragement, the campaign brings conversations about wellbeing into daily life – from traffic lights to coffee queues – with the aim of reducing stigma and making support more visible and accessible. Keep an eye out for the art-covered cabs across London and scan the codes to learn how to apply or share the resource with someone who might need it.
