An Insider Guide To Istanbul With Misela's Serra Türker

Serra Türker is responsible for the most delectable handbags around, by means of her ultra-luxurious, modern essentials line Misela.

Based out of Istanbul, Misela has the type of pieces that transcend the norm and imbed themselves into memories of late night strolls and summer sun-kissed afternoons. With the kind of flare and femininity every fashion it-girl loves, Misela counts Sienna Miller and Princess Beatrice as fans. It’s no wonder that Serra herself would also hold the keys to the ultimate must-see spots on the Bosphorus, where she has us dreaming of hammams and rose-infused Turkish delight.

Read on to discover the insider guide to Istanbul with Misela’s Serra Türker.

The best time to visit Istanbul is …

Either late spring or early fall. The city’s magic comes alive when the weather is pleasant, perfect for walking, exploring, and enjoying the city’s outdoor cafés and Bosphorus views.

Our first pitstop should be …

Anywhere along the Bosphorus. It’s the heart of Istanbul and the best way to start your trip. It’s where you can truly feel the city’s energy and beauty between two continents.

What is one dish, snack, or drink you think every visitor should try to understand Istanbul?

Our Turkish pizza, lahmacun, paired with ayran, a traditional yogurt drink, perfectly represents Istanbul’s vibrant and flavourful food culture.

Unmissable tourist spots to visit or things to do?

Visiting Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, the Grand Bazaar, and the Spice Market is essential. I’d also recommend a walk around the Pera neighbourhood, where old Istanbul meets the new.

Tourist spots to avoid?

Avoid overly commercialised restaurants near tourist attractions. The best food and atmosphere is always found in local neighbourhoods.

Your favourite hotel to check-in at is and why …

Either Soho House Istanbul in Pera, located in the beautifully restored Palazzo Corpi, or the Four Seasons Hotel and Mandarin Oriental along the Bosphorus. Soho House offers a creative, historic atmosphere, while the Bosphorus hotels provide unmatched views and a sense of calm luxury. Ritz Carlton Istanbul for its central location, its very easy to get around from there.

Do you have a favourite rooftop bar?

Bebek Hotel Terrace and Rooftop — the view over the Bosphorus is simply unbeatable, especially at sunset.

A favourite gallery?

Galerist – one of the most inspiring contemporary art galleries in Istanbul.

The spot only locals know?

Petra Roasting Co. — my go-to for a great third-wave coffee and a relaxed, creative crowd.

If someone is visiting Istanbul for the first time, what place would you take them that surprises them and isn’t in every tourist guide?

I always take guests to Çukurcuma for antique shopping, and we always stop by A La Turca, a charming spot filled with unique finds and local character.

What’s the happening neighbourhood?

Bebek — it’s always lively, filled with locals, cafés, and beautiful seaside walks.

Where can we go shopping?

İstinyePark Mall — a mix of international luxury brands and local designers, it really is a heaven for shopping.

Where would you go if you had a free afternoon?

I’d spend it wandering around Balat, one of Istanbul’s most colourful neighbourhoods, and then cross the Haliç River to visit Tersane, a beautifully restored cultural space.

Where would you go for local crafts, textiles, and treasures rather than tourist souvenirs?

The Grand Bazaar is the best place to explore handmade crafts, textiles, and treasures, it’s chaotic but full of beauty and tradition.

Are there customs, habits, or etiquette in Istanbul that you feel visitors should know?

Be aware of rush hour, traffic can get intense, especially when crossing from Europe to Asia. Planning your day accordingly makes a huge difference.

What’s the best way to get around Istanbul?

By car, though adding a ferry ride across the Bosphorus is the most scenic and authentic experience.

How do you like to unwind in Istanbul?

A spa day at the Mandarin Oriental is the perfect way to unwind — calm, luxurious, and beautifully designed.

Essential items to pack and why …

Comfortable pants, walking shoes, a lightweight jacket, and a cashmere shawl. Istanbul is best explored on foot, and a shawl is always handy for breezy Bosphorus evenings.
