As we launch Family Month here at CF, I find myself chuckling at the timing. Why? Because I just spent an entire week away from my family. Yes, seven whole days solo. And if that doesn’t sound wild, trust me, it is. It’s my first solo trip longer than two days in over four years. I adore my kids, truly. But let’s be honest, a little “me time” isn’t just nice, it’s downright necessary.
Of course, “time off” is a generous term. My week was packed – errands, meetings, sneaky workouts to keep my sanity intact, and finally tackling those pesky tasks that have been haunting my to-do list for months. Exhausting? Absolutely. But deeply satisfying, too. I had a sensational dinner with friends at Chancery Rosewood’s Serra (at the same time as bedtime!), I casually “strolled” between meetings. I didn’t go to bed by 9.30pm knowing I’d be up at the crack of dawn. Solo travel has its own kind of magic, the freedom of “hands-free” wandering, the bizarre question of “Did I forget something?” And the rare luxury of uninterrupted silence. I read a book, caught a movie, listened to a podcast…
That got me wondering: how can I make travelling with my kids a little less hectic? Family trips are, without question, the ultimate classroom. Exploring new cultures, languages, flavours, and friendships opens their minds in ways no textbook ever could. But how do we make these adventures easier to handle? Let’s be honest, after a gruelling school term, a beach escape is pure gold for the kids: sun, sand, and well-earned downtime. Yet, I can’t help but ask, what memories will really stick? The wrapped-up present? Or the shared stories and escapades that can’t fit inside any box?
This month, we’re diving into the best family-friendly hotels, filling your half-term and Easter calendars, tackling travel tummy troubles, exploring spa weekends everyone in the family can enjoy, cruising with kids, even the ever-present mum-guilt when work calls you away. We’re also unpacking fertility travel, cultural experiences for little ones, and a much-needed refresh on those ‘just woke up like this’ treatments (count me in for that last one).
So, as we dive headfirst into family travel – along with all the fabulous style, wellness, and culture that makes life sparkle – remember this: while you’re busy plotting your multi-gen getaways and ticking off to-do lists, don’t forget to pencil in some well-deserved me-time. Trust me, it’s essential.
Here’s to making those moments count.
Warmest wishes,
