How To Travel More Sustainably Through Your Beauty Routine

Sustainable beauty innovation is booming in 2026. Here’s how to use it to to reduce your impact on the planet when you travel.

Getting your beauty routine right when you travel can already be a struggle – there’s the destination itself to think about (and the events you might be going to), plus the need to decide which of your favourite items can actually fit weight-wise in your suitcase.

This is our guide to making your travels more planet-friendly (and stress-free) without compromising on great makeup looks, effective skincare, and beautiful, fragrant products.

Including products like reusable cleansing mitts and clever skincare solutions, these are the best sustainable beauty products for travel that the CF team uses and recommends, so every step of your routine feels maximised when you’re on the go.

THE CAUSE-FOCUSED MAKEUP FIX

Chantecaille is a beautiful makeup and skincare brand known for their charity collaborations, and the latest Flamingo collection is both covetably pretty and inherently travel-friendly. Created to support the Amazon Conservation Team and their work protecting flamingos and their ecosystems, the eyeshadows come in handy trio sizes that still give you enough makeup looks to experiment with, as well as glossy lip colours that elevate all your holiday outfits.

THE SWIMMING POOL PROTECTOR

Dulcie’s protective balm, created in collaboration with Speedo, might look understated but it packs a serious punch and, if you love swimming, it should earn a place in your sustainable beauty routine (it was originally designed for Olympic athletes, after all). Housed in 100% home-compostable Vivomer packaging, the travel-friendly 15ml balm uses hand-harvested bladderwrack from Margate to keep your skin soft and comfortable even when frequently subjected to the drying effects of chlorine.

THE REUSEABLE CLEANSING MITT

Not only are The Inkey List's reuseable makeup rounds more planet-friendly than using cleansing wipes to wash your face, they also mean your beauty routine can multi-task, meaning there's a need for less products and less time spent in front of the mirror. The black side of this mitt gently (yet thoroughly) removes your makeup using just water (or for a deeper clean, slot in your favourite cleanser), while the white side gives you an instant exfoliated glow.

THE SHAMPOO BAR

Shampoo bars have come a long way from the tricky-to-use, overly-stripping options we had a while back, which is great news considering they're both super travel-friendly and cut down on water and packaging waste. Now, you can trust them to thoroughly wash and nourish all hair types, and if you pick one from Dr. Organic you'll be guaranteed one that smells great too.

THE TOOTHPASTE TABS

Our beauty director was first introduced to the concept of toothpaste tablets while raiding the amenities at a hotel bathroom, and it has completely changed how she travels with hand luggage only. All you have to do is chew on the tablets like a mint and, with the help of your wet toothbrush, you have a quick and easy travel-friendly solution to a cleaner smile. Parla's are dentist-approved (so you know you are still getting an effective clean) and they're a great way to freshen up on long-haul flights too.

THE SUSTAINABLE MANICURE

Getting your nails done before your holiday is a real signal for the excitement to start – and now you can save both money and your impact on the planet with Claws by Tiger Taylor's clever at-home press-ons. Easy to apply and long-lasting in a whole range of colours (although we particularly love the clean, nude shades), best of all they are also biodegradable and won't harm your nails as much as traditional extensions.

THE BODY WASH

Bodywash tends to be one of the first products to be left behind if you are travelling light, but one of the latest innovative solutions within sustainable bodycare could make that a thing of the past. Concentrates – yes, a little like how you make a glass of squash – transform from powders to foams, helping cut back on plastic packaging, water usage, and weight – meaning they can make travelling easier too. Akt, which also does an incredible natural deodorant, is one of our favourites and the formula smells great.

THE REFILLABLE LIPSTICK

Guerlain's range of refillable lipsticks are the perfect blend of collectable, travel-friendly and beautiful on your lips, courtesy of long-lasting shades and the interchangeable caps (sold separately) which have a mirror for easy touch-ups on-the-go. The latest limited edition collection also has sustainable roots, using upcycled denim from the ateliers of prestigious couture houses to create playful designs, in partnership with the French fabric wholesaler Nona Source.

THE NATURAL ANTIPERSPIRANT

What makes Make Waves’ natural deodorants stand out from the crowd is that (unlike some) they aren't messy or sticky to apply. In fact, they are just as convenient as a traditional (and less sustainable) spray. That's all due to a rather innovative twist-and-click applicator that makes swapping the fully recyclable refill capsules in and out stress-free, as well as very travel-friendly. Plus, the formula can actually keep you smelling fresh, by helping stop sweat, not just masking odour, alongside skin-friendly ingredients to keep your underarms smooth.

THE SKINCARE SACHETS

Single-use sachets can make travel skincare simple, but they have a bad eco-reputation because you use them once then throw them away. Noble Panacea is turning the skincare-sachet sector on its head. The sachets themselves are made from recyclable paper which, when finished, can be returned to the brand in place of new refills, while the reuseable starch-based statement case gives you somewhere to store them when at home. Most of all though, each sachet contains green chemistry-backed skincare you'll actually want to use, with lots of options covering cleansing, moisturising, brightening and exfoliation.

THE EYE MASKS

Considering early-morning flights, late-night adventures, and a hefty amount of jet lag, under eye masks can be the difference between looking puffy or refreshed in your holiday photographs. To make the little treat more eco-friendly, VOYA not only uses 100% organic seaweed (a natural carbon sink) to help refresh your eyes, but also has packaged the masks in materials that are compostable and recycleable.
