Once a quieter, lesser-known corner of the Caribbean, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is rapidly emerging as one of the region’s most compelling travel destinations. Here’s where to stay.
After years under the radar, this lush archipelago, defined by verdant rainforests, volcanic peaks, and crystal-clear seas, is now attracting a growing wave of visitors, and for good reason.
A pivotal moment in this tourism transformation was the spring 2024 opening of Sandals Saint Vincent. This marked the resort brand’s first property in this Eastern Caribbean nation, putting Saint Vincent squarely on the map for luxury travellers, otherwise known as the ‘Sandals Effect’. A game changer for Sandals Resorts.

The Vibe
Saint Vincent remains refreshingly untouched by mass tourism, and Sandals Saint Vincent offers a rare chance to lose yourself in true Caribbean spirit, from dramatic coastlines and vibrant local culture to exhilarating sailing, hiking, and island-hopping adventures that beckon beyond the resort’s boundaries.
But you don’t have to go far to be captivated: spread across 50 lush acres, between rainforest-draped mountains and crystal-blue Caribbean waters, Sandals Saint Vincent wraps you in natural beauty and Vincy charm, where every amenity and outstanding facility is just a short bicycle ride away. Here you can unwind in an unparalleled wellness sanctuary, savour exceptional dining, and explore a destination that still feels wonderfully undiscovered.
But the heartbeat of the hotel is the wonderful Vincentian team who create the resort’s warmth and welcoming spirit. Every day feels like an adventure, guided by people whose passion for their beautiful island is evident in their welcoming style and desire to create an unforgettable stay for all guests. The brand is known as an adult-only, couples’ getaway, but it would be a perfect girl friend getaway too.
The Rooms
The accommodation here is among the most compelling reasons to visit. The natural beauty of Buccament Bay becomes part of your room, where sweeping panoramas of rainforest and sea are framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, inviting the dramatic landscape indoors.
Spread across the property are 321 guest rooms and suites, and decor leans into a beach-house aesthetic with soft, sandy neutrals, pale wood accents, and plush beds that encourage you to linger a little longer over your morning coffee.
But the true showstoppers are the Vincy Overwater Two-Story Villas. These ten remarkable sanctuaries are suspended above the sea and unlike anything else in the Caribbean. On the lower level, glass-covered floor panels give an intimate glimpse of the clear waters below, while an expansive rooftop terrace invites you to settle in with the horizon as your backdrop. Outdoor tubs, hanging daybeds, and direct ladders into the warm Caribbean waters make every moment feel like a private celebration.
For those seeking intimate privacy without ever lifting a finger, the resort’s butler-service villas are a revelation. Greeted by name, your personal butler anticipates every need, whether it’s unpacking luggage, reserving your favourite table at one of the resort’s acclaimed restaurants, or setting up a private beach dinner just as the sun begins to melt into the sea. This level of service turns even the simplest moments into something extraordinarily personal whether it’s the way you like your morning coffee or a chilled towel after your hike. (Guests staying in these room categories have in-suite check in and may also arrive and depart via the 20-minute ride on the resort’s private boat.)
And for guests like us, who returned to our room after long days filled with adventure (namely after completing a 20-mile run and kayak earlier that day), there’s unmatched joy in the private tub on the terrace filled with ice and cool water at twilight, waiting for an icy soak.
The Food + Drink
While dining can be a weak point at some all-inclusive properties, all of the restaurants here defy expectations. Buccan is Sandals’ new culinary concept showcasing local Vincy ingredients. It’s a masterclass in family style dining, with a maximum of 30 guests per night at a communal table. Platters of lamb curry, freshly grilled snapper, coconut rice and grilled fruit are served as the head chef talks through each dish. Throughout the evening we passed dishes around, comparing tasting notes; it felt like an experience that is unique to dinner parties with friends – one I didn’t expect from an all inclusive resort.
Even though the resort boasts 11 different dining concepts, we found ourselves returning to Scrimshaw several times – not for lack of exceptional alternatives but thanks to its focus on the island’s abundant, locally sourced seafood, plus the most generous, knowledgeable sommelier I’ve ever met.
For daytime dining, Jerk Shack or the Parisol Beach Club are both must-tries. Before we’d even unpacked our bags, we made a beeline for Jerk Shack for perfectly grilled chicken and Jamaican patties, which quickly became a staple in our daily diet.
What ties it all together is the vibe: live music drifting through the swim-up bars and lounges, expertly mixed cocktails at Three Jewels Rum Bar, and an overall sense that every meal is part of a larger, beautifully orchestrated retreat.
The Little Extras
If you rise with the dawn (easy to do when adjusting from UK time), the resort’s expansive shoreline often feels entirely yours, a pristine stretch of sand, kissed by the morning light. And if you’re fortunate enough to be in one of the overwater villas, your own private deck becomes the perfect vantage point to recline with coffee in hand and watch stars slowly fade into sunrise.
Pelau, a beloved Caribbean one-pot classic made with rice, richly seasoned meat and pigeon peas, is a staple of local comfort food across the islands, beloved for its soulful, layered flavours. Though it wasn’t featured on the resort’s regular menus, one casual conversation with a waiter about how the dish is prepared at home yielded a delightful surprise: the next morning, a generous pot of homemade Vincy pelau was delivered to our door – a testament both to the generosity of Vincentian hospitality and to the lengths the team at Sandals Saint Vincent will go to make your stay feel unforgettable.
The To-Do List
While Sandals Saint Vincent is undeniably sensational, the real magic of this destination lies beyond its immaculate grounds. If you’re ready to get out and explore, the resort’s on-site excursion partner, Island Routes (bookable at an extra cost), makes it effortless to immerse yourself in the wider wonders of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, from sailing the shimmering Grenadine waters and island-hopping between coral-fringed cays, to hiking the slopes of the iconic La Soufrière volcano – an active peak last seen erupting in 2021.
Comprised of 32 idyllic islands and cays dotted across deep-blue seas, this archipelago is a tropical paradise tailor-made for sailing and snorkelling. A day charter to the Tobago Cays Marine Park is arguably essential: five pristine cays encircle a stunning natural lagoon where sea turtles and vibrant reefs invite you into their world. Each island along the Grenadines has its own personality, from the laid-back charm of Bequia, to the elegant sophistication of Mustique, and Sandals can arrange either private charters or group excursions so you can sip rum punch on Princess Margaret Beach or unwind with rosé on a secluded shore.
Back on the main island, the resort’s privileged position grants direct access to an abundance of hiking trails that lead into Saint Vincent’s verdant rainforest. With a trusted local guide, you can explore paths like the Will Be Free Waterfalls trail, where multiple cascades tumble into refreshing pools you can swim in (just be prepared to get wet at the river crossings). For a quieter slice of history and natural beauty, the Botanical Gardens, the oldest in the Western Hemisphere, make a tranquil half-day excursion.
For underwater explorers, Saint Vincent’s reputation as a premier Caribbean dive destination continues to grow. With warm, clear waters and an abundance of marine life, from rays and tropical fish to dramatic coral formations, the Grenadines are among the region’s finest spots for both snorkellers and certified divers alike. To discover the vibrant reefs that hug the islands’ shores Sandals offers included snorkelling and scuba diving, if you’re a certified diver.
