What To Do With Children This March: Recommendations from the CE Team

There’s a real spring in our step this March (pun fully intended), both for us and for the kids. From Easter bunny decorating to diving into a whole car universe, the team has been busy lining up plenty to look forward to.

Think London’s best bookshops, tiny train dining experiences, family Sundays filled with performances and even the odd weekend escape, it’s shaping up to be a very fun month ahead.

WEAR I’m obsessing over the Boden children’s collection. With so much upcoming time in the sun, I’m loving their swimwear for boys and girls. READ I love going to bookshops and really eager to get my kids used to popping into a store and picking a book they like. I’m a big fan of Hatchards in Piccadilly which has a lovely selection of children’s books. Take a walk down Bond Street, enjoy a bit of Covent Garden and end the afternoon with a hot chocolate and a book here. PLAY Lovevery have launched their 4 year old playkits. Games, modular villages, microscopes, all sorts of fun!  My daughter is going to love it. USE With lots of outdoor play in the sun, we’ve started playing with kites, and Lofty Kites do great sustainable options which are really easy to fly. EAT Melt does very cute Paint Your Own Easter Bunny eggs which we will decorate home and gift to the whole family to, of course, eat.

STAY I visited Gleneagles for the first time a few weeks ago with my family and cannot recommend it enough for a staycation with children. The breakfast buffet has it’s own magical set-up (at little one height) filled with goodies and, very handily, snacks to pocket for the rest of the day. From the falconry to mini Land Rover off-road driving, it’s an absolute dream for kids, with so much space to run around and explore. Our little one loved collecting stamps in the adventure book before handing it over at reception for his badge (which he’s still proudly sporting on his jacket). DO The Pixar Experience just opened at Wembley Park and, as my son is a huge Cars fan – particularly Lightning McQueen – this is high on our list of weekend plans with him. BUY Anything Hot Wheels, as that is the obsession in our house with our car-mad loving three-year-old. As a result we need more storage for his rapidly-growing car collection – I’ve got my eye on this personalised wooden car garage from Child Universe.  WEAR For a matching mini-me moment, I’m really into Chelsea Peers pyjamas for their hand-drawn prints and I adore their kids selection, particularly this pair with dogs driving golf carts (of course!) for a fun bedtime set. EAT I’ll be hoping for breakfast in bed this Mother’s Day, and anything from the pastry selection at Queen’s Park bakery, Don’t Tell Dad is a guaranteed hit.

DO Tate Modern recently unveiled its latest Uniqlo Tate Play projects, and the first kicks off on 28 March, where children are invited to make their own colourful sculptures inspired by the work of artist Linda Bell. Her practice involves using everyday materials such as foil, paper and fabric to create huge works, which are often used in making and performance workshops. It sounds like a perfect starting point for little hands. VISIT The British Library opens its interactive Fairytales exhibition this month, in which enchanted lands, magical creatures, iconic characters and timeless tales, brought to life through books, theatre costumes, puppets, pop-ups, artwork and illustrations. BUY Calling mamas-to-be (or just anyone embracing billowing silhouettes this summer): Clary & Peg, the British brand loved for its airy, vintage-inspired maternitywear, launches its spring/summer 2026 collection on the 12th – and it’s so pretty. The embroidered Tilda top is a welcome warm-weather addition, whether you’re expecting or not. PLAY It’s our son’s third birthday soon, and we have hired Brockwell Parl’s Miniature Railway Train, which opens again on 8 March after closing during the winter. I have talked about what a great, budget-friendly kiddo activity this is before, but if you’re based in South London, and, like me, have a child obsessed with trains – a 220-metre ride on this tiny train is such a fun weekend option. It’s also helpfully close to family-friendly pizza restaurant 400 Rabbits, which sits next to the Lido.

SEE There are so many great shows on, from the intensely thought-provoking Tracy Emin at Tate Modern to the colourful explosion of Rose Wylie at the Royal Academy. Take time out to be inspired – it is always worth it. ENJOY I love taking my kids to the theatre. The Little Angel is particularly gorgeous and I have booked The Everywhere Bear (on until April 19). If you don’t know about The Royal Opera House’s family Sundays, they are an absolute joy: a full day of events for kids, which includes snippets of performances, workshops, dress up and crafting – all within the Opera House’s beautiful setting. BUY Spring is a time for freshening up the wardrobe, and I love these new ballet flats from Margaux – this pair of  shoes in particular – with the perfect bag that fits my laptop and still looks chic. ORGANISE Organising my ever growing jewellery collection is something that gives me great pleasure. I recently bought a beautiful jewellery box from the heritage British company Wolf, which has pull out, fabric-lined compartments that just beg to be played with. WATCH We’ve been spoiled for choice with Oscar season films, but one that’s about to come out is Broken English – a never seen before career-spanning portrait of the late Marianne Faithfull. It is gorgeous (and in cinemas from 20 March). EAT OUT I recently ate at Evelyn’s Table, and can’t stop raving about it. It’s a very small dining room, with 10 covers, sitting around a bar, watching the chefs – led by Seamus Sam – at work. There’s no choosing, you get served the most delicious mini dishes, paired with wine (or non-alcoholic options), and you will have the best meal of your life. I left with the wine list and, after having the most delicious dill martini, made with British-made vermouth and vodka. Head to the website for Vault Aperativo, where I instantly bought a selection box of vermouth, vodka and gins to make restaurant-grade martinis at home.
