What To Do With Teens This Easter

Keep teens and tweens engaged, inspired, and crucially, off their screens, with our pick of the capital’s best Easter experiences.

From indulgent Italian feasts to high-octane driving thrills, there’s no shortage of ways to fill the holidays. With a little forward planning, you can turn a stay-at-home break into a series of memorable moments they’ll actually be excited about.

1. For teens who love problem solving

Calling all budding James Bonds. Spyscape and Spygames in Covent Garden is a high-energy, high-stakes immersive world of espionage that teens will love. More than an escape room, it was created in collaboration with a former Head of Training at British Intelligence, and combines psychological profiling, high-tech missions and physical challenges allowing participants to get a greater insight into their skill at deception, surveillance and encryption. At the end it provides a profile of their spy personality so you can see if your teens have what it takes to join MI5.

2. For teens who love beauty

Anyone with teens will be well aware of Gen A’s skincare obsession. Thankfully LUSH is hosting free educational ‘Skintroduction’ workshops specifically for preteens and older to encourage a healthy approach to caring for their skin. The interactive in-store sessions discuss fundamentals of skin health, including understanding skin types, how the microbiome functions and how to build simple, effective routines without overwhelming young skin. It is well worth a visit.

3. For teens who love theatre

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will be appearing in Romeo & Juliet at The Harold Pinter theatre in Leicester Square alongside Noah Jupe. Their West End debuts are unmissable. Kingston’s Rose Theatre is another must-visit this Easter with two great productions. Our Town, starring Michael Sheen as part of his new Welsh National Theatre (plays until Saturday 28 March), is a warm and witty adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s beloved American play. Another moving and at times funny production is The Boy at the Back of the Class. Based on the brilliant novel by Onjali Q. Rauf, it is a lesson all children should hear. Meanwhile John Proctor is the Villain at the Royal Court Theatre, is a sharp, snappy take on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

4. For teens who long to drive

If they love anything fast and furious, the Mercedes-Benz World Driving experience in Weybridge is the perfect day out. Let your teens get behind the wheel of a G-Class 4×4, and with a qualified specialist by their side and dual controls, they can take off and begin mastering manoeuvres on the purpose-built driving facility and off-road course. No experience or driving license is needed – if they are tall enough to reach the pedals, off they go. All car fanatics can enjoy the guided tours and Formula One Simulator zone, while this Easter there are egg hunts, treats and ceramic decorating for little racers.

5. For teens who love to feast

With Insta-ready interiors and generous Italian dishes, a meal at any of the Big Mamma group restaurants in London will make an occasion. Gloria, in stylish Shoreditch, has launched a new Italo Sunday series – an audacious take on the Sunday lunch that is perfect for hungry young ones and their friends. Featuring sharing-style dishes – let them feast on home-made focaccia, prosciutto and seasonal salad, the signature ten-layer lasagne and as much decadent tiramisù as they can muster.

6. For teens who love to stay up late

Why not let them see the city at its most dazzling with a trip on the Golden Tours 90-minute bus route by night. Sweep past Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and St Paul’s Cathedral after sunset. Simply board at the London Eye or Green Park on the less congested streets. Also great for night owls is the twilight tour, Soane Late: The Drama of Architecture, at one of the most fascinating buildings in London, the Sir John Soane museum. A time capsule of art, furniture and architecture by one of the country’s greatest architects will a spark their imagination, andthey can take it all in at its most atmospheric.

7. For teens with great taste

A trip to Covent Garden is always a great shout for quieter days, whether they are hitting the slick Beauty Quarter with makeup behemoths Glossier, Charlotte Tilbury and Benefit or browsing all the cool streetwear brands in Seven Dials like Carhartt WIP or skater-heaven Route One. Round out the day with the sell-out set menu at the award-winning steakhouse, Hawksmoor, where you can order a main and side for £19, and treat them to the new range of spring desserts including chocolate mille feuille. Housed in what was once the largest brewery in London, where the owner hosted an annual steak supper, it’s great for ravenous teens.

Through veils of mists, mossy life-sized forests, and a towering longship, why not step in the multi sensory footsteps of the Norse greats at Vikings: The Immersive Experience in Canada Water, which opened this month. Combining huge installations and replica artefacts, if they love Game of Thrones, they will enjoy getting an interactive taste of the golden age of the Vikings with stunning 360° cinematic projections.

9. For teens who love lego

Finally, it doesn’t matter how old they get, LEGO is one activity they all love to create, whether it is the intricate LEGO fine art sets or a colourful Easter bunny. During the holidays, stores across the UK are hosting Easter celebrations (until April 4th) where tweens, teens (and let’s face it their parents) can join in Easter Egg hunts as well as building sessions to create their own Easter egg to take home for free.
