There’s nothing quite like coming home to London and finding it transformed. The city in summer is a different creature altogether – golden, generous, alive – and I’ll admit it, I love nothing more than kicking off the season right here. Summer really is a special time for London, and I’m soaking up every minute of it.
We started the season in spectacular style. Our first celebration took us to the breathtaking D Maris Bay in Turkey, where I was lucky enough to gather a room full of remarkable women at one of my all-time favourite restaurants, Il Gattopardo. Wonderful food, even better company, and an insight into the Turkish Riviera’s most special property.
And then there was Zurich. Well — wow. We are utterly smitten. Zurich has become one of our favourite European cities, and, honestly, I’m not sure what took us so long. The wellness, the food, the endless walking, the shopping, the sauna boats, the sheer joy of leaping straight into the lake, it has everything a perfect weekend away should. On a more personal note, my youngest has just turned one – a whole year, already. With three little ones all under four, life right now is a glorious, exhausting, beautiful rollercoaster, and most days I’m holding on with both hands and a coffee that’s long gone cold. But for all the chaos, this season of motherhood has given me a gift I didn’t expect: it’s taught me to rediscover my own city through their eyes. The wonder of a first park picnic, the magic of a show that has them completely spellbound, the small thrill of an ordinary day out. London feels brand new again when you’re seeing it with them. Southbank is our forever go-to: the endless shows, the lazy afternoons by the river, the spontaneous adventures that turn into the best days. And our team’s Citizen Enfants picks never once let me down.
Which brings me to this month’s theme, Discovery. It’s a word that captures exactly where my head and my heart have been. We’re finding ourselves through travel; uncovering cultural heritage and the Aloha spirit in Hawaii; hunting down Ibiza’s very best restaurants (of course); stepping into the world of aesthetics in South Korea; embracing the magic of solo travel; and celebrating the girls who love football, who to enjoy it with, and exactly what to wear.
Wherever this summer takes you, I hope you discover something wonderful, and perhaps a little of yourself along the way. Because if there’s one thing we’ve fallen head over heels for this month, it’s the magic of solo travel: the freedom, the clarity, how a journey taken alone has a way of bringing you home to yourself.
