The Conscious Citizen: CF's June Sustainable Edit

Welcome to The Conscious Citizen – CF’s monthly spotlight on the most inspiring sustainable collectives paving the way in mindful innovation and impact.

Including a fully transparent fashion brand, handmade jewellery crafted with recycled materials, and an eco-conscious Balinese resort that’s a trailblazer in eco-hospitality – these are a few of the names making a positive change this June.

FASHION

MÁ + LIN

Founded in London by former fashion buyer Yue, Má + Lin was born from a desire to challenge the excess of the fashion industry. Every garment is fully traceable, from the flax fields where the raw materials are cultivated to the workshops where each piece is made and by openly mapping its supply chain, the brand champions a level of transparency rarely seen in contemporary fashion. Working exclusively with certified European linen – one of the world’s oldest and most environmentally responsible natural fibres – and trusted suppliers in Belgium and Portugal who share the same commitment to quality and ethical production. Rejecting the traditional fashion calendar, Má + Lin embraces slow fashion through limited runs, pre-orders and carefully managed stock levels to help minimise waste and avoid overproduction. Inspired by circular economy principles, each garment is designed for longevity, with biodegradable natural fibres and timeless silhouettes that encourage conscious consumption over fleeting trends.

ACCESSORIES

CAROLINA DE BARROS

German-Brazilian designer, Carolina De Barros is a London-based jewellery brand defined by sculptural forms and created as wearable art – designed for those who see jewellery as an expression of themselves. Guided by a philosophy of ‘less is more,’ Carolina embraces a slow and considered creative process, releasing just one collection each year and prioritising quality over quantity. Every piece is handmade to order in London using 100% recycled precious metals and ethically sourced gemstones and pearls from trusted Responsible Jewellery Council-certified suppliers. Production remains local, supporting skilled craftspeople and family-run businesses while reducing environmental impact. This commitment extends to every aspect of the brand, from plastic-free, recyclable packaging to a zero-waste approach that reuses all metal offcuts.

STAY

DESA POTATO HEAD

Desa Potato Head became Indonesia’s first carbon-neutral hospitality company in 2017 and continues to invest in carbon reduction projects, biodiversity initiatives and community-led conservation programmes. Guests are encouraged to participate through hands-on experiences ranging from mangrove restoration and beach clean-ups to waste tours that showcase the brand’s circular systems in action. Its sustainability journey has evolved into a regenerative model centred on circularity, with the long-term goal of becoming a zero-waste operation. Waste generated across the property is reimagined as a resource, transformed into furniture, amenities, artworks and design objects through the brand’s innovative waste centre. From recycled plastics and discarded glass to used cooking oil, materials that would otherwise end up in landfill are given a second life through thoughtful design and local craftsmanship. Through the Sweet Potato Project Foundation, Desa Potato Head operates regenerative farms, community waste programmes and circular food initiatives that support local communities while restoring ecosystems. What began as an emergency response during the pandemic has grown into a far-reaching programme that provides food security, supports farmers transitioning to regenerative agriculture and transforms food waste into compost that nourishes the land.

BEAUTY

MILLER HARRIS

Since its founding in London, Miller Harris has championed a more thoughtful approach to perfumery, positioning the brand as a leader in conscious fragrance. Guided by its Sustainability Manifesto, the brand prioritises responsibly sourced ingredients, ethical partnerships and continuous improvements across its supply chain. Every fragrance is vegan and formulated without phthalates, parabens, formaldehydes or artificial colourants, while the business continues to explore new ways to reduce its environmental footprint without compromising on quality or artistry. Nature remains both the brand’s greatest inspiration and its most valuable resource. Rather than simply extracting from it, the fragrance house is committed to protecting it. This commitment has earned the brand Positive Luxury’s Butterfly Mark, recognising its dedication to responsible business and sustainable luxury.

EAT

MINDFUL CHEF

Founded in 2015, Mindful Chef was created with a simple belief – that healthy eating should be delicious, accessible and responsible. Today, the recipe box company delivers nutritionally balanced, chef-designed meals across the UK, making it easier for people to cook wholesome food at home while supporting a more sustainable way of eating. Using only trusted suppliers, ingredients champion British meat, free-range chicken and responsibly farmed or sustainably caught fish, prioritising quality, provenance and animal welfare throughout its supply chain. Seasonal produce, wholefoods and plant-forward ingredients form the foundation of every recipe, creating meals that are as nourishing for the body as they are mindful of the wider food system. As a certified B Corporation, sustainability is embedded into every aspect of the business. Mindful Chef fosters long-term supplier relationships, supports biodiversity and continually works to reduce its environmental footprint, while its pre-portioned recipe boxes help minimise household food waste by providing customers with exactly what they need.

Social impact is equally important to the company’s mission. Through its One Feeds Two partnership, every recipe box sold funds a nutritious school meal for a child living in poverty, with more than 20 million meals donated to date. This commitment to creating positive change has earned Mindful Chef recognition through The King’s Award for Sustainable Development.
