With Wimbledon fever in full swing, some of London’s most stylish terraces are hosting daily open-air screenings of the tournament, with deckchairs, Pimm’s and strawberries aplenty.
Until 12 July, a slew of al fresco hotspots across London will be showing the tournament on the big screen, tucked away in sun-dappled squares and elegant hotel courtyards. The best part is you don’t need to be a tennis fanatic to take part in Wimbledon’s traditions of strawberries and cream on the lawn, or a tennis-themed afternoon tea.
From Soho to Belgravia, these top Wimbledon viewing spots are surrounded by restaurants, shopping and other activities to make a day of it – so gather the gang, pull up a deckchair and watch Wimbledon on the big screen.
Duke of York Square, Chelsea
Large screens are currently on show at Duke of York Square in Chelsea, inviting busy shoppers to pull up a deckchair and soak up the sunshine. Once you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve dropped, an abundance of Pimm’s, strawberries, cream and Scotch eggs are the reward – all quintessential Wimbledon traditions. Swish VIP deckchairs can be booked on the spot, or there’s space on the lawn to bring your own picnic blanket.
Ham Yard Hotel, Soho
Tucked away in the heart of Soho, Ham Yard Hotel offers a retreat in the city for tennis fans. Watch all the action at the Wimbledon tennis championships in the hotel’s leafy restaurant courtyard, where you’ll find a huge LED screen and a special edition Pimm’s served in a picnic hamper with strawberries and cream. Avid tennis fans also have the option to wear wireless headphones to keep a closer eye on the commentary.
La Môme, Knightsbridge
Celebrate the championship finals in style with a chic Wimbledon summer brunch at La Môme London on Sunday 12 July. Located at The Berkeley, this is London’s first outpost of the buzzy French hotspot that also has restaurants in Cannes, La Plage and Monaco. La Môme will be hosting a sprawling buffet-style meal alongside a live band throughout the afternoon: expect perfectly executed Mediterranean and fish dishes which are presented with flair. The flaming sea bass is a signature – and arrives flambéed – before being expertly filleted and deboned at the table. Screenings of the Wimbledon finals will take place throughout the day on the French Riviera-style terrace.
Dog and Fox, Wimbledon Village
Embrace London’s tennis frenzy at its source: Wimbledon Village. Here, the Dog and Fox is serving up (pun intended) a fortnight of menu specials, striking installations and plenty of merch to take home. Due to popular demand, the pub’s much-loved scotch egg special is back (it’s shaped like a tennis ball), as well as a civilised afternoon tea for two and a Champagne breakfast.
 Kioku by Endo
To celebrate Wimbledon, the rooftop terrace at The OWO plays host to the Wimbledon championship celebrations, with large screens on Kioku’s spectacular terrace. Japanese dining is central to the viewing experience, where guests feast on seasonal dishes of beef tartare and sea bass in between live matches, as well as a regular à la carte menu. The tournament will be shown from midday until 9pm, allowing guests to soak up London’s skyline with a glass or two of Château Minuty Rosé.
The Refinery, Various Locations
Looking for somewhere to watch Wimbledon in the city? Catch every match live at The Refinery Bankside (Southwark) and The Refinery New Street Square (Chancery Lane), where you’ll find large outdoor screens and a celebratory atmosphere. Both venues are spacious and atmospheric enough to feel included in the action, offering an assortment of cold beers, wines, spritzes and cocktails to keep you cool throughout the tournament.
Battersea Power Station, Battersea
The Wimbledon Experience has returned to Battersea Power Station for the summer, with huge outdoor screens, Wimbledon-inspired floral displays, live scoreboards and traditional strawberries and cream. Throughout the Championships, tennis fans are welcomed to sit back, relax and watch the BBC’s broadcast live on a ginormous 15-square-metre outdoor screen, situated in the Power Station Park’s fan village. Deckchairs get snapped up fast by tennis fans and tired shoppers in search of some respite, so make sure to get there early.
Chez Antoinette, Covent Garden
Tennis fans in central London should venture to Chez Antoinette for a tasteful viewing. The French bistro is partnering with Buckingham Green/L&O to create a dedicated viewing spot for up to 52 guests. Deck chairs are set up for a relaxed match-day atmosphere, with Wimbledon’s iconic strawberries-and-cream tradition celebrated in style – including in the bistro’s own strawberry soft serve.
