Butler Service And A Kids' Club: Inside The St. Regis Le Morne, Mauritius

An idyllic tropical island bursting with culture, colour and soul, Mauritius offers something for everyone, whether it’s a multi-generational escape, a honeymoon or a wellness-led reset. On the island’s southwestern tip, the St. Regis Le Morne resort has emerged following a significant revamp, with upgraded suites, elevated dining concepts and enhanced guest experiences.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Le Morne Brabant mountain, the resort sits on what is arguably one of the island’s most breathtaking stretches of beach with a sheltered sweep of powder-soft white sand and turquoise waters. Thoughtful new additions like private beach kiosks dotted along the shore offering suncream, drinks, and light bites make it all too easy to slip into the rhythm of island life.

The Vibe

A graceful Mauritian estate inspired by the private retreats of the Astors, this all-suite resort balances old-world glamour with a warm, family-friendly ease. Following its 2025 repositioning under the St Regis Hotels & Resorts brand, the property leans into a timeless, colonial-inspired aesthetic with sweeping verandas, Victorian colonnades and an opulent bar inlaid with mother-of-pearl. A striking contrast to the contemporary and cavernous marble-clad spa. Across the resort, cloth-draped cabanas fringe the large central pool, while the beach feels both spacious and quietly exclusive.

Service is at its optimum. Each suite comes with the brand’s signature butler service, easily summoned via WhatsApp whether to arrange babysitting, book a dolphin-spotting excursion, or organise thoughtful touches like a candlelit flower-bath in your room. Despite its grandeur, the atmosphere remains relaxed and welcoming with children padding around barefoot and families spilling out onto the beach at sunset with drinks.

The resort is around a 75-minute drive from the international airport, with regular direct flights with British Airways from London making it an easy long-haul option for UK families in search of winter sun or a far-flung summer escape.

The Rooms

All 172 suites and villas are positioned to face the ocean, arranged in low-rise maisonettes that maximise the glowing Mauritian sunset. The interiors offer up a refined, old-school elegance with dark wood furnishings, billowing white drapes and generous bathrooms and glass doors that open onto shaded terraces framed by tropical gardens. For families, flexibility is key and rooms can be configured with extra beds and cots, and interconnecting options are readily available.

For something truly special, the five-bedroom beachfront villa is one of the island’s most impressive private residences, comfortably accommodating large, multi-generational groups. Expect a private chef, dedicated butler service, multiple heated pools, a gym, steam room and direct beach access, effectively your own secluded resort within a resort.

The Food + Drink

Dining here is top notch across all five restaurants. From Mauritian-influenced buffets at Le Manoir to the theatrical flair of teppanyaki at Atsuko, dinners have a sense of occasion, without tipping into formality. Indya is a particular highlight for its modern take on Indian cuisine, while The Boathouse is likely to become a family favourite for its laid-back, toes-in-the-sand setting. Crucially, children are not just accommodated but welcomed. Meals arrive quickly when needed, menus are thoughtfully designed, and under-fours eat free.

Breakfast is worth lingering over with an expansive spread that somehow manages to include everything from dim sum to eggs Benedict, alongside a delightfully playful children’s buffet. By evening, the pace slows. The St. Regis Bar is all polished glamour, while the beachfront lounge is scattered with beanbags and is where you’ll want to be as the sun dips, drink in hand. Don’t leave without trying the L’Ile Mary, the hotel’s take on a Bloody Mary. And then there’s the genius touch of a discreet buzzer at every sun lounger, summoning poke bowls, bento boxes or cocktails to your spot.

The Child’s Play

The Kite Flyers Kids Club, for ages four to 12, is one of the more thoughtfully designed I’ve come across: shaded outdoor areas, its own pool, and a programme that includes kite flying, crafts and games. Older children aren’t forgotten either. Tennis tournaments, a games room and a dedicated teen entertainment room keep the harder-to-please contingent occupied, and La Palme d’Or, the resort’s private cinema, is a useful card to play on the one afternoon it rains. There’s also a family Chef’s Table and cooking class, which has the advantage of being appealing to adults as well. Beyond the club, the experiences feel more elevated than the usual holiday-camp fare. Horse riding along the beach at either end of the day, kite-surfing lessons – this stretch of coast is a serious kitesurfing destination, with the celebrated One Eye break just offshore – and guided e-bike tours that get everyone off the property and into the landscape. The wider water sports club covers kayaking, snorkelling, paddleboarding, windsurfing and glass-bottom boat trips, most of it included.

The To Do List

For those who like to balance pool time with exploration, the setting beneath Le Morne Brabant is hard to beat. Guided hikes up the mountain are a must and are challenging enough to feel rewarding with views that more than justify the effort. Out on the water, the lagoon is perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding, while more adventurous types can try kitesurfing in what is one of the island’s best spots at Le Morne beach. Boat trips are easily arranged and often come with dolphin sightings if you are prepared for an early start. Golfers can tee off nearby at Heritage Golf Club, while those staying closer to home will find plenty to fill slower days including a private cinema complete with popcorn and ice cream, a well-stocked library and a spa that’s really worth carving out time for. Treatments draw on Ayurvedic traditions, and the complimentary yoga and Pilates classes are a gentle way to start the day before the beach inevitably calls you back.
