Who could have predicted the renaissance of the flip-flop? The style most commonly associated with gap-year travellers has been reclaimed by the fashion crowd in recent years, starting with The Row’s chunky Ginza style first launched in 2019 and still going strong in the desirability stakes. This season, this democratic style is once again in the spotlight. Easy to wear, comfortable and freeing, the fashion flip-flop is an easy way to bring a relaxed elegance to your summer wardrobe. These are our favourites.
The HAUTE FLIP-FLOP takes two forms – leather flat or leather heeled, the latter of which are great with a pair of this season’s trending capri pants or for dressing up a holiday evening look. PLATFORMS ARE ALSO POPULAR this summer, especially as a way of offsetting feminine dresses. The classic Havaiana has also become a street-style staple, giving a stripped-back 90s edge to summer wardrobes; its square-toe styles deliver a MORE REFINED LOOK.Â
How to wear? The leather styles are solid workwear contenders when worn with wide-leg trousers, a tank top and blazer. Satin, leather and suede designs have evening mileage – a stripped back accompaniment to a slip dress or column skirt. They also pair well with denim, particularly a straight-leg jean or Bermuda shorts for a relaxed, yet pulled-together aesthetic.
