London's Bank Holiday Weekend Hot List

Did someone say we are going to get a hot bank holiday weekend in London? That means enjoying London at its best! Brunches and bellinis, bouncy castles and brunchstrokes, here is Citizen Femme’s top list of best London Bank Holiday weekend activities.

1. Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival just gets bigger, brighter and more colourful every year and this year will be no different as Europe’s biggest street party prepares itself for an elaborate celebration of epic proportions over 27th and 28th August. Expect the usual from this two-day Caribbean spectacular; ostentatious floats, extravagant costumes, parades, music, street food, rum punches and lots of partying throughout the day and into the evening…

2. Dinerama

A music festival where you actually make time to eat? Who would have thought it. For one day only, Field Day are teaming up with Street Feast to take over Dinerama in Shoreditch. Get some cheesy soakage with Laffa’s crispy halloumi fries, find out what the hell a ‘Tequila Colada slushy’ is and then dance it all off to a DJ sets from Simian Mobile Disco, Baoi (Vampire Weekend) and Lemmy Ashton.

3. The Beast

For just four days over the August bank holiday, you can bounce, leap, crawl and run your way along an unbelievable 272-metre, 32-obstacle, adults-only bouncy castle course that is gonna blow your socks off. Not only that, but before you try to defeat The Beast, you can spend your day diving right into a load of mouth-watering street food and drink vendors, plus live DJs and an extraordinary sound and light show, all in the grounds of Alexandra Palace. We cannot explain how much fun your day is going to be!

4. D&D Club Brunch Series

On Sunday 27th August, Madison Rooftop and celebrity DJ, Vogue Williams will throw a stylish summer brunch party straight out of Club Tropicana. Located in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral, ‘Club Brunchers’ should arrive from midday to enjoy panoramic views over London’s iconic skyline. Madison is already renowned for its buzzing atmosphere and this will be taken up a notch as visitors sip on a killer welcome cocktail and tuck into bespoke brunch food and feel good music.

5. Bunga Bunga Sunday Supper Club

With no work on Monday, Bunga Bunga Bank Holiday Sunday is the perfect time to make some serious summer memories. Two hours of bottomless bellinis and pizza and endless entertainment, before the cocktails kick in and guests take to the stage for a little Bunga-OKE. To top off a fantastico weekend on Bank Holiday Monday plates of pizza will be flying out of the Bunga Bunga Battersea ovens for just £1! Whether you’re as fresh as a daisy for the extra day off work or nursing a hangover, the pizza powerhouse will be offering a bellissimo end to the long weekend.

6. From Selfie to Self-Expression, Saatchi Gallery

From Selfie to Self-Expression at Saatchi Gallery is the world’s first exhibition exploring the history of the selfie from the old masters to the present day. Following its huge success, the exhibition has been extended to run until 6 September. The exhibition showcases key artworks by artists as diverse as Kutluğ Ataman, Christopher Baker, Juno Calypso, Tracey Emin, Van Gogh, Mohau Modisakeng, Rembrandt, Cindy Sherman, Gavin Turk and Velazquez. Showing alongside examples of many influential artists’ work will be selfies that have quickly become icons of the digital era – from the beautiful and sublime to the mad, bad and downright dangerous.

7. Paint Jam Carnival Special

Nothing helps an artist create their seminal work like a reggae DJ set. Chuck paint at the canvas between throwing shapes at this art social. Knock back some rum cocktails, get cocky and let the sound of steel pans guide your brushstrokes.

8. Miami Bordel

Pink neon, piña coladas and ‘Miami Vice’ themes seem to be everywhere in London this summer. Why? Because nostalgia and frozen strawberry daiquiris are a winning combination. For Miami Bordel, The Experimental Cocktail Club is taking over a space in Shoreditch to serve up giant margaritas, palm tree backdrops and Duran Duran tracks.

9. Outdoor cinema with Luna

Seeing as London is going to be lucky enough to have good weather this Bank Holiday, Luna Cinema does the job! And it just doesn’t sit still, darting about to venues as diverse as Alexandra Palace, Kew Gardens, One New Change and Crystal Palace Park — and that’s just a sample of what happens New for this year are screenings at the Horniman Museum, but the Jaws screenings at Brockwell Lido are the highlight of any cheesy film fan’s summer. Food and drink offerings can vary from venue to venue but generally takes the form of a (well-stocked) bar, woodfired pizzas and gourmet burgers. It’s a case of bring your own blankets, or pay to hire backrests — or a premium ticket gets you a reserved director’s chair.

10. Open Air Theatre

Following its sell-out success in 2016, Jesus Christ Superstar returns to the stunning surroundings of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, the production returns to give audiences one final chance to see it in its original home.
