Viva Mexico!

Tulum, Mexico has been on my bucket list for quite some time now. Known for its “magical” properties (the Mayan Indians built an ancient temple here set atop a dramatic rocky bluff) — this teensy town two-hours away from Cancun is a must see.

My family and I toured the lizard-laden Mayan ruins archaeological site (in 100 degree weather, no less! — hooray for weight loss!) where we soaked in the city’s spiritualistic vibes. My children kept asking how the Mayans survived without air conditioning, soft beds and ice cubes which I found quite hysterical. Kids, these days, I tell ya. We actually stayed at the Paradisus Hotel (a Meliá Hotel) because it’s new, modern, child friendly (this being the operative word), beachfront and butlers are included with each room. Plus, we’re huge fans of charming Playa del Carmen (located 40 minutes from Cancun). At night, we found ourselves wandering the town’s cobblestone streets eating cinnamon-coated churros and shopping for quirky, colorful gems. The highlight of the trip for our kids? A jaunt to the natural water park of Xcaret. There, we floated down ice-cold (so refreshing!) cenotes (underground rivers and sinkholes), learned about sharks, turtles, dolphins and more, snorkeled, swam in natural pools, and ate tacos until our bellies were full like the Pillsbury Doughboy’s. Viva, Mexico!
