Things To Do With Children This June: CE Team Recommends

Every month the Citizen Enfants team and some of their mum friends share what’s on their family-friendly to-do list. Here is some great inspiration for what to get up to with your children this June.

The sun is shining and it’s time to get out and about with little ones. From London’s best green spaces to theme parks, sporting days out and even zip lining, here are some super fun ways to enjoy this sunny month with your children. You’ll also find suggestions for stylish additions to summer wardrobes (for mums as well as kids), great child-friendly restaurants and some wonderful UK hotels for a fantastic family break. Happy planning!

VISIT I’ll be taking a trip to Windsor’s LEGOLAND outside of school holiday times to avoid the rush. There’s so much to do for kids under four so its a treat of a day out for them. EAT Ice cream at the new Piccadilly Carpo concept store. Kids, and all of us, really will be enjoying some of London’s best ice cream (if we make it passed the chocolates). USE The new Rockahula Kids summer collection is very sweet, the Flutter Butterfly Sunglasses and Mini Suitcase Bag are sure to be a hit. VISIT I’ll take a day trip with my kids to Hampton Court Palace for their Magic Garden, an open space to let their feed and imaginations run wild. CELEBRATE I’ll be celebrating my little boy turning one and with various jungle themes, I plan on gifting these personalised party boxes from Etsy. DRINK I look forward to sipping a cocktail and aperitvo on the sun-soaked Davies Terrace at the Royal Opera House.

STAY Cornwall is a gorgeous spot for a family holiday and it boasts some fantastic five-star hotels that welcome kids with open arms. Check out Idle Rocks, Watergate Bay and The Nare for child-friendly stays in stunning locations. BOOK Tickets to see Cameron Macintosh’s brand-new adaptation of the hit musical Oliver that arrives in the Westend mid-December. It might seem a long way off (though personally I think it’s never too early to talk about Christmas!) but tickets are selling fast. I snapped some up this week. TRY A real tan is a no-go for me, but I do love looking sun kissed so I’ll be using Tan Luxe before I head to Spain later this month. It’s the most realistic one I’ve found and smells nice too. WEAR End of term means sports days, prize givings and parties. I’ll be be wear these gorgeous gold sandals from Gianvito Rossi to all of them. Super comfy and perfect for busy days running around. DO My thrill-seeking teens will love a trip to trip to Gripped London where they can go zip lining and climb on (extremely!) high ropes. Needless to say, I’ll be watching with my feet firmly on the ground! READ If I had to pick one classic children’s book that I would buy for every little person I know, without doubt it would be The Jolly Postman. Every child should have the joy of this utterly magical book – my boys loved it. Get a copy and you’ll instantly see why. BUY New summer kit from Love Brand who make the best shorts and T shirts for boys.

SEE Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre is such a lovely day out for all ages. I’m thinking of taking my girls to see The Secret Garden there soon. A classic story and the ideal setting for it. EAT The Laduree Café in Covent Garden has opened a new tea room so I’ll be popping in for afternoon tea with my little ones who will adore all the pretty cakes and macarons. A lovely treat over the school holidays. WEAR The chicest shorts from Asceno. Perfect for the city or the beach. ENJOY Eating outside in the sunshine again at the recently opened Garden Terrace at the Hari, London. I look forward to a glass of fizz there.

STAY I’m just back from a trip to Tuscany which was hosted by the Theta Retreat, a company that specialises in mindful experiences that prioritise both the mother and baby bond, but also allow mum to have some downtime on her own. Mornings were spent doing yoga, reading my book, working by the pool and having massages, while my little one played with her new friends in the creche. In the afternoons, we came together for jewellery making workshops, excursions and lazy siestas. Bliss. BUY I’ve always been a sucker for traditional clothing for children so I was delighted to discover that one of my favourite brands, Smock London, is now doing ‘grown-up’ versions. Super cute. VISIT Earlier this month, I found myself in Berkshire, and at a loose end decided to book a visit to Wellington Country Park. I was not disappointed! With endless playgrounds, sand pits, a splash zone, miniature train, duck pond and farm, there’s almost too much to tick off. I’d heartily recommend it if you are in the area. BOOK Core childhood memory unlocked: this week me and some friends booked tickets to see Disney on Ice with our littlest ones in November. Does anyone else remember the colourful snow cones and flashing lights? VISIT We’ve also recently booked a two-night stay in the three-bed cabin at Lakes by Yoo for mid-September. I’m counting down the days already. PLAY I’m known as something of a connoisseur of soft plays and recently discovered a new favourite: Crumb and Play at Heart of the Country Village in Staffordshire. Extremely chic (‘aesthetic’ as Gen Z would say), it’s all pastel colours in the soft play area downstairs, with a mini role play village upstairs featuring a shop, building site, salon and cafe. They also do great cakes which is a big plus point.

STAY In London! Our city is a great place to be with all the parks we have here and activities around. We like to go to Battersea Park as there’s a huge playground for all ages and you can get on the pedalos to take out on the pond. Followed by a treat at the Pear Tree CaféSEE As my boys are now playing cricket at the weekends, we have started to take them to see their first proper cricket matches at the Oval. There is a great Kids Zone area to keep them entertained alongside the action outside. They have interactive games, green screen photos making them look like Pro cricketeers and face painting. We’ve also been taking them to see rugby events at Twickenham. Coming up is the Gallagher Cup and the Killick Cup all in the space of a few weeks. The buzz of the crowd and live sports is so much fun for them.VISIT The summer is great for exploring then countryside around London and we really enjoy a trip Hever Castle. They have a birds of prey show and a jousting competition. Henry the VIII comes out to start the event and the jousters and other actors put on a great show. They get all the children involved too and it’s a lot of fun. Bring a good picnic and you’ve got a great day out. BUY As a Mummy to two active boys I want to make sure I have all things ready to go in as stylish a way as possible. I recently bought a ROKA London backpack. A B-Certified company, their backpacks are recycled and repurposed and is great for events but also for travel. I love the ethos and style of ROKA. EAT A family tradition is eating at La Famiglia on Langton Street in Chelsea. We celebrate birthdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day every year. With a few birthdays and Father’s Day coming up, we will be there often. We also love the Pig’s Head in Clapham Old Town as they are Farm to Fork. They have their own farm in Kent and when you go to the pub you can see all the fermenting and work they do to minimise waste, which we are a big fan of. The food is incredible! Worth a visit.
