Things To Do This July: What The CF Team Are Loving

Summer is finally looking up and the Citizen Femme team’s calendar is filled with exciting things to do this July.

Including places to eat and stay, plus things to buy, watch and try – this is the ultimate inspiration to see you through the month.

ENJOY After a family holiday, I’m booked in for an indulgent morning spa at Knightsbridge luxury spa Surrenne, for a traditional hammam experience. WEAR I love a Mary-Jane; they’re smart enough to wear with jeans or a dress, and practical to run around in. This pair from Rothy’s in elegant ivory with black piping are my summer shoe essential – and they’re incredibly comfortable. LIVE IN These white linen pyjama bottoms. They’re my go-to for upcoming summer travels: on the plane, in the car, by the beach, and dressed up or down. DRINK Symprove. With plenty of dining out and travel, a day doesn’t go by without me taking it – it’s the first thing I drink when I wake up. READ I was gifted the new book, Wives Like Us by Plum Sykes, which I imagine I will quickly devour as a summer read. VISIT Outside of longer haul family travel, I’m looking forward to weekend day trips to Coworth Park and Soho Farmhouse

STAY For ten days on the Amalfi Coast, starting in Naples before heading to Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Ravello. It will be a romantic getaway for two in one of Italy’s most beautiful places, eating all the pizza and pasta and soaking up the sun. BUY I need an Italian-inspired wardrobe to match, and have my eye on this super-chic MIGUELINA embroidered maxi dress for seamless day-to-night dressing. EAT At Holy Carrott’s new branch in Notting Hill, for plant-based goodness to recover from 10 days of Italian food. LUST Over Celine’s Pilates Collection. As someone who only does Reformer Pilates as their exercise of choice, the wood and leather Pilates reformer is everything I could want for chic at-home workouts. WATCH A Quiet Place: Day One, a spin-off to A Quiet Place film series. I love a nail-biting thriller, and the prequels had me on the edge of my seat!

STAY On the Greek islands of Mykonos and Paros; I’ve been to Mykonos many times, so am simply looking forward to some downtime here. In Paros, I’m keen to spend leisurely lunches at Rada and lively evenings at Barbarossa. WEAR My new bikini top and briefs from Arket, ideal for sun-soaked days on the beach. LEARN Arabic, using the Drops app, as well as the DuoLingo app. This week, I’ll reach a 100-day streak on the latter. My boyfriend is also a native Arabic speaker, which is probably the biggest help of all! BUY Some new summer sandals; I’m eyeing up this Le Monde Béryl pair as a comfy-but-elevated style for al fresco dinners. PRE-ORDER: Sottsass by Philippe Thomé, a re-release of Phaidon’s coffee table book about the Italian designer and architect. Shipping from 8 July 2024.

RELAX At one of my favourite new spas. I loved writing about them for our CF wellness month and could happily unwind at any of them. BUY More SPF! You can never have enough of it in summer – even in the UK (consider this my beauty editor PSA). My current favourite, for its invisible finish, is the Intradermology Synergy 6 SPF50. BOOK Next To Normal at the Wyndham’s Theatre. This musical about a mother with bipolar and the diagnosis’ impact on her family is touching, laugh-out-loud funny and shocking in equal measures. EAT More home-cooked vegetarian food. I’m on the lookout for a (beginner-friendly!) cooking course to give me some fresh inspiration for the summer and beyond. WATCH Tennis at Wimbledon for the first time. I’m excited to witness all the action from the stands (and from the suitably-named Murray Mount) with a glass of Pimm’s in hand, of course.

TRAVEL To our beach house in North Devon, as soon as my children’s school breaks up for summer. I’m looking forward to a summer filled with family and friends, who often come to stay with us there. EAT Dinner with friends at Il Gattopardo (when I pop back up to London) on their lovely, hidden terrace. It’s an ideal spot for delicious Italian dining al fresco. WEAR These With Nothing Underneath shorts to match my favourite blue-and-white striped seersucker shirt. The perfect easy co-ord for beach days. WATCH Kevin Costner’s new Western movie Horizon: An American Saga. There are two parts, both out this year. Cowboy boots at the ready. SING ALONG I’m off to BST Hyde Park to see Shania Twain and The Corrs for a bit of nineties nostalgia.

STAY At Champneys Forest Mere for a super relaxing spa getaway. It’s a charming manor house, ideally located next to a picturesque lake. WATCH I’ve just finished watching Supacell on Netflix. This new series is based on five ordinary South Londoners who discover they have extraordinary powers. I watched it in one go! READ A book about a young Palestinian woman entangled in a scheme to resell Birkin bags. The Coin by Yasmin Zaher tackles themes of class, homelessness, sexuality and beauty, revealing how oppression and inherited trauma permeate every aspect of our lives. BUY My sister was gifted this Cult Gaia scented candle and it smells amazing around the house. I need to get my hands on one! LISTEN I’m admittedly obsessed with celebrity culture, so imagine my excitement when I discovered one of my favourite TikTokkers, Sarel (known for her Love Island takes), has teamed up with Jack Remmington, Stacey Dooley, and Larry Dean to launch a new podcast, Famously.

BUY La Ganini Studio – I have my eye on this amazing summer gingham co-ord. PACK I have a long-standing love affair with Missoni; you can never go wrong with their bikinis and cover-ups for a chic summer vacation. UPGRADE My sunglasses with this timeless pair from Celine. WATCH I Am: Celine Dion on Amazon Prime. It’s full of iconic fashion, and is an amazing story from a very strong lady. EAT Cambio del Tercio on London’s Brompton Road. I’lll be sitting outside, eating tapas, drinking wine, and watching the world go by.

STAY With Silent Living, a creative concept that designs stunning ‘home away from home’ properties in Portugal. Their 18th-century Lisbon property is a bucket-list stay for me. EAT At Akub in Notting Hill. This Palestinian restaurant is by Palestinian chef Fadi Kattan and honours traditional dishes – taught to the chef by his grandmother Emilie – with ingredients such as olives, figs, labneh, zaatar, and Aleppo pepper, all with modern twists. READ Between Meals: An Appetite For Paris by A.J. Liebling is on my ‘to be read’ list for July: set in 1920s Paris, it’s a meandering musing on the culinary pleasures of the city with a joie de vivre attitude. SHOP Linen pieces to carry me through every summer occasion; whether to the office or to a beautiful al fresco dinner in Provence, these Pegase trousers by Soeur Paris will be the item I reach for. WEAR I love Ffern’s concept of releasing a new scent with every season, and look forward to trying the Summer 24 fragrance, it’s made with red champaca flower to afford the soft smell of honeyed meadows in the British countryside.

STAY At the stunning Estelle Manor, a hotel and country club in Oxfordshire. I’ll lounge away a long, lazy (and hopefully sunny!) afternoon with a pina-colada (or two) at their Riviera-inspired pool before heading to the 3,000 square metre Eynsham Baths, inspired by the bathhouses of the Roman era. EAT At 18, on a trip to Fife. This rooftop restaurant serves the very best seasonal and locally-sourced Scottish beef, seafood and game. The salt-aged duck is a must-order. BUY I cannot recommend Postal Bakes by Lucy Burton enough. Lucy shares over 60 simple-yet-decadent sweet recipes through the post. Think fudgy brownies, cookie slabs, sponge cakes and indulgent truffles. WATCH I love trash TV so will happily spend an afternoon binge-watching Selling Sunset, Selling the OC and Buying London. Drama. Drama.Drama! LISTEN I’m not ashamed to say that I love listening to Harry Styles and Backstreet Boys while cycling down Regent’s Canal on a gorgeous sunny day.
