GO HERE ‘To Know About Women: The Photography of Eve Arnold’

The UK’s largest Eve Arnold retrospective in over a decade, ‘To Know About Women: The Photography of Eve Arnold’,  is now open at Newlands House Gallery in West Sussex. While some of her most-known portraits are those of famous figures (the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor), pioneering photojournalist Arnold played a pivotal role in bringing undocumented subjects to the public eye. She captured the civil rights movement in America during the 1960s, including the Nation of Islam (NOI) rallies and meetings led by Malcom X, the American Muslim minister, human rights activist and vocal advocate for Black empowerment. Over 90 black-and-white and colour photographs will be on display, including her career-defining documentary of the fashion shows held in Harlem in the 1950s.

DO THIS Dimple Amani Lymphatic Drainage Massage

If you make time for any self-care and wellbeing, head to Dimple Amani. Any expert in wellbeing will tell you that lymphatic drainage is one of the fastest ways to flush out toxins, enhance immunity, reduce bloating and improve muscle tone. Why? The Lymph system is the largest filter system in our bodies, playing a key part in body functionality, so its vital to keep it clean and healthy. Specialising in face, head and abdominal lymphatic drainage treatments based on Ayurvedic and Brazilian principles, ‘The Amani Method’ uses a heated sesame seed-infused body and navel oil, which is first slowly poured onto your stomach, aiding relaxation. Then, using strong but effective sweeping strokes across your body, starting at the feet and moving up through the body, therapists massage your body with the aim of detoxifying, removing water retention and sculpting. Leave feeling lighter, healthier and enjoy the benefits way beyond your session.

EAT HERE Carousel

One of London’s most innovative culinary institutions, Carousel, plays host to a fresh crop of collaborations, with global chef talent spanning Melbourne to Berlin, in its new home on Charlotte Street. The rotating residency kitchen features Borneo-born Aussie, Esca Khoo, who has worked under René Redzepi, Heston Blumenthal and André Chiang, he reimagines familiar Asian flavours with bold and imaginative cooking; to Malli, the Mexican-Jewish pop-up taking the LA food scene by storm, set up by chefs and partners Elizabeth Heitner and Nestor Silva. A merging of two cultures in the kitchen, the menu creatively melds nostalgic Jewish favourites from New Yorker Elizabeth’s past with the Mexican dishes that Nestor grew up eating. Head down to the wine bar to enjoy a cool yet casual menu of sharing dishes designed to be eaten with a low-intervention wine list that rivals the best in the city. With a weekly-changing pre-fixe lunch menu for just £22 (for two courses) encompassing flavours from Latin America to the Mediterranean, the Wine Bar is a celebration of Carousel’s own chef talent and a reflection of the team’s revolving guest chef collaborations. Take a seat for a selection of food experiences where the chefs are centre stage and no two weeks are ever the same.
