Editor’s Letter: March 2024

With the month of March comes International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, and a recognition and platform for women worldwide.

Countries unite on March 8th specifically in the celebration of women’s achievements, a global event that honours women of the past, present, and future generations. But, where did it come from? The first official International Women’s Day was as recent as 1975, when it was recognised by the United Nations. But its origins began earlier, in 1908, when a women’s rights march in New York City saw 15,000 people advocating for better pay and voting rights. But must it be just one day? While the 8th is a great opportunity for storytelling, to reunite, to share experiences, I wholeheartedly believe this is a daily remembrance, and that is our premise at CF. Coming from an all-female team, our goal is to provide a platform to support women and celebrate them, well us, daily.

This month our focus is family. We kicked it off with a super event at Annabel’s talking to their members about the importance of family travel in child development, joined by an excellent panel of Anna Bromilow, Jes Salter, Kirsty Edwards of Scott Dunn and Dr Sheila Redfern. Make sure you take a look at Morag Turner’s (Citizen Enfants Editor) ultra useful piece on how best to plan a family holiday, with top tips from our panellists. For gifting this month, Gemma Louise Deeks has put together an edit for Mother’s Day gifting (read: add to my own basket). Thanks to Scott Dunn (and the people behind some of the world’s best kid’s clubs), we have a great competition for our readers, click here to find out more. And an article for everyone to bookmark is our annual guide of where to go every month of the year during 2024.

The sun is gently creeping out, as is our wanderlust. We’ve been to Miami, Sydney, Oslo, Sri Lanka, and Tuscany, and this month we’re taking you to Dubai, Palm Beach, Seychelles, Tenerife and you’ll be journeying with the team on our exciting Easter travels. Becki Murray will be exploring the best health advice from around the world, Gina Jackson launches her new column, and Katie Silcox brings you the most brilliant women changing the world in our column The Female Gaze.

And back to families…Come with us as we help you have a smooth journey with kids, how to do it best without kids and what to take with you in your suitcase. Happy March!
