'Til The Last Drop #19

Welcome to ‘Til The Last Drop: a bi-monthly column in which I, CF Beauty Editor, Olivia Bennett, share my review of a favourite cult product that I (truly) use to the last drop. This week’s featured product is Byredo Mixed Emotions.

I’m messaged by friends and family, at all hours of the day, with recommendation requests for everything from “the budget gel moisturiser that works with combination skin” to “the hard-hitting eye cream that will make Botox a last resort”, and queries on “whether X, Y, and Z from the current trending brand are REALLY worth the hype”.

Such incessant inquiries sparked this column, where I’ll cover best-selling names alongside under-the-radar brands to note. You’ll hear about blow-the-budget products that live up to their hefty price tag and the purse-friendly steals which I unashamedly turn to time and again.

No need to text me, I’ll be sharing all my intel with you right here every other week. Tune in.

THE AUTUMN SCENT

I always think autumn is a time to liberally spritz my cashmere with richer, deeper fragrances: the kind of sultry scents I usually wear solely during the evenings in the summer months. One such scent I find myself reaching for again and again is Byredo's Mixed Emotions; as with all Byredo fragrances, it lingers long on the skin and always affords me many compliments – most recently charming a stern airport baggage handler, such is its power. Mixed Emotions launched earlier this year, aiming to olfactorily capture the precarious uncertainty of 2021. The scent is complex and instantly hypnotic. The heady burst of cassis feels almost medicinal, as if cracking open a soothing bottle of cough syrup, which warms down to a sweet note, without being too sickly. The ceylon tea and dizzying violet-leaf heart gives it a lulling energy, whilst birch wood offers a woodiness that makes it oh-so wearable. I don't think I'll don anything else this autumn…
