In the midst of Coronavirus-gate, we’re saying ‘be a bit more Naomi’… We don’t mean don a hooded hazmat suit and mask like the supermodel (yet) but there are precautions you can take to defend yourself from getting sick.

“There are many factors we cannot avoid, like the cold weather, but we can build our body’s defence more successfully to minimise symptoms and the frequency of colds and flus,” says Dr Michael Barnish, specialist in Micro-Nutrition, IV Therapy and the UK Medical Director for REVIV.

“We need to arm our bodies with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help the body to deal with the over-exposure to bugs and stay healthy.”

From the handbag-friendly rinse-free hand wash to the egg-like sauna that strengthens your immunity, these are the virus-fighters that we’ll be stockpiling to beat coronavirus.

THE HAND REFRESHER

Hand hygiene is paramount right now, but if you can’t get to a tap and abide by that 20-second washing rule during virus season, protect on-the-go with Aesop Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand Wash. Like hand sanitiser reimagined, it has a 62% alcohol content to cleanse your hands and kill germs (approximately 99.9% of bacteria) – minus the need for a sink. Not just a bacteria-busting powerhouse, in the chicest of mini brown glass bottles, the Resurrection gel smells of mandarin rind, rosemary leaf and cedar wood atlas and won’t dry your hands out.

THE PLANE POUCH

Whether you’re airport-bound, or moving between meetings, limit the spread of germs by keeping your worldly possessions contained. Anya Hindmarch’s metallic envelope pouch has a clever little compartment for each of your can’t-live-without essentials so you aren’t carrying them in your hands and risking contamination in public spaces. With clear PVC and silver grained leather, it features a front press-stud pouch, back slip pocket, two card slots, smartphone slot and pen slot. Plus there’s a gold zip that runs around two sides for easy access to your passport – or trusty antibacterial wipes.

THE WELLNESS WASH

A body wash that helps to boost your immune system as you take your morning shower? Where do we sign up… Plant Apothecary’s innovative Be Well Body Wash works in two ways, as both a preventative and pick-me-up bathroom shelf essential. While the mix of essential oils curated by aromatherapists and clinicians will help boost your immune system, the scent of eucalyptus and bergamot organic essential oils are both bracing and refreshing to help pep you up if you’re feeling under the weather or suffering with the Covid-19 self-isolation blues. Use it to clear a stuffy head and nose – and perk up the mind.

THE IMMUNITY SAUNA

Saunas have come a long way since the sweaty wooden rooms where you sit awkwardly with a tiny towel and pretend to look at the ceiling. Meet the high-tech sauna pod that you can sit in (solo, FYI) to boost your immunity. Exclusively at Urban Retreat London, the HOCATT Ozone Sauna destroys bacteria and viruses and improves circulation by up to 25% in one half hour session. This tech-meets-wellness sauna pod uses steam and Far Infrared Rays (FIR) to raise the body temperature and improve immunity functions by stimulating white blood cells. Destroying fungi, bacteria and viruses, it helps prevent infections and immune system deficiencies.

THE DEFENCE DROPS

When it comes to guarding against illness or infection, think of The Nue Co.’s Defense Drops as your first line of immunity defence. The powerful blend of echinacea, mistletoe, schisandra and rosemary join forces to ward off signs of sickness through a three-pronged approach – anti-fungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial. Made in an alcohol-free tincture for optimum absorption and taste, you can add this immune-boosting formula to any liquid to create a potent goodbye-sick-bugs concoction. It won’t make you feel invincible in Coronavirus-mania, but it might just help.

THE WELLNESS SPRAY

You may be stockpiling carbohydrate basics in your larder, but don’t forget those wellness tinctures, too. Following The Beauty Chef founder Carla Oates’s philosophy that 'beauty begins in the belly' this herbal mouth spray works to support immunity and wellbeing, thanks to the combo of bio-fermented superfoods, mineral essentials and herbal extracts. Think sage, calendula and olive leaf which are rich in nutrients, along with vitamin B-rich biotin and antioxidant-packed selenium to protect cells from damaging free radicals. With a refreshing peppermint taste, it’s super-easy to spritz and swallow, whether you’re at home, or on-the-go.

THE PERFUMED PALMS

ADD TO YOUR WISHLIST: Hand sanitiser doesn’t have to mean medical-grade clinical bottles on your side table. Byredo’s luxe Vetyver Rinse-Free Hand Wash is velvety soft but has a special alcohol-base formula that cleanses as well as combats bacteria and nasties. But, as with all Byredo potions, it’s all about the smell. Think zingy pomelo and angelica seeds, heady mate and jasmine, flanked by fresh, pure violet. Use just one drop of this Vetyver Rinse-Free Hand Wash straight from your handbag and rub in for that just-washed sensation.
