W11’s latest draw, The Princess Royal, on peaceful Hereford Road in Notting Hill, is a weekend must-visit. A chic pub with rooms, those passing through the area (following a rummage around Portobello Market and a pit stop at French import L’Appartement Sézane) will do well to stop here for a moreish bite and a glass of something chilled. The dog-friendly, elevated pub offers a particularly good Sunday lunch – nab a table in the Garden Room and order some focaccia and padron peppers for the table, followed by English burrata accompanied by blood orange, radicchio, and toasted coriander seeds to get you started. Chef Ben Tish’s menu is inspired by the sun-drenched Mediterranean way of life, whilst also placing focus on British produce. For the main event, opt for the ‘princess parmigiana’ (a great option for vegetarians) and the chicken salad with roast tomatoes, grilled gem, sourdough croutons and parmesan (plus a side of rosemary fries and aioli dip). Roast-wise, the chicken and lamb options are standouts. Finish on a sweet note, with one of the best panna cottas we’ve tasted in years.
