City Shopping Guides: Singapore

With impressive urban planning, a multi-cultural community and delicious dining, people visit Singapore for many reasons. Shopping is one of them; you’ll find it in luxury malls and edgy neighbourhoods.

Eshita Kabra-Davies, global citizen and founder of fashion rental platform By Rotation, grew up in Singapore. Here, she shares where to find unique buys and curated boutique pop-ups as well as the best places to stop for coffee.

Best area or street for shopping…

Orchard Road without a doubt – it’s a long street with over 30 shopping malls. It’s Singapore’s take on Oxford Street. I would take refuge at ION Orchard, a mall with both contemporary and designer brands.

Where can we find the best vintage shops…

Haji Lane has a very Shoreditch feel to it. You can expect to find unique gems in many of the vintage shops along that street.

One place only locals know about…

Kinki is the laid back rooftop bar with an impressive view of the Marina Bay waterfront. It’s a favourite with locals.

Your favourite local brands or boutiques?

Zerrin hosts wonderfully curated boutique pop-ups for sustainable fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands.

Souvenir to take home?

Pineapple tarts! And a Singapore Airlines air hostess outfit if you’re in love with Batik print as much as me.

The best place to treat yourself is…

Capella Hotel, it feels like you’re an island away from Singapore. It’s located on Sentosa Island, so you kind of are…

Best store design?

YOURS is a standalone multi-label concept store with unique interior design in the trendy Tiong Bahru district, stocking independent fashion, accessories and lifestyle labels.

Best pit stop for lunch or coffee?

Tanjong Pagar is where it’s at. Very cool cafés and good food throughout the small neighbourhood.
