Every season comes with an abundance of new trends, but how many of them are actually wearable? CF’s fashion editor, Gemma Louise Deeks, decodes this seasons Autumn/Winter trends.
From fiery reds to chocolate browns, ballet flats to bucket bags, these are the fashion trends for Autumn/Winter 2023 we will actually be shopping. Some of which we may have in our wardrobes already…
1. Chilli Red
Magenta may have been Pantone’s colour of 2023 and we saw pink in abundance to celebrate the release of the Barbie movie, but Chilli Red is the sexy shade coming in hot for Autumn/Winter 2023. A fiery red is the perfect colour to spice up a minimalist’s wardrobe and will give fail-safe monochrome looks a modern edge.

2. 90s Minimalism
Clean line silhouettes, straight-leg jeans and small shoulder bags scream off-duty model (think 90s Kate Moss) and you can recreate this trend easily with a few key items you probably already have in your wardrobe. Pair white tank tops with denim, retro-inspired sneakers and a streamlined coat, or a simple slip dress with minimal heels and an oversized blazer.
3. Chocolate Brown
Our new favourite neutral, this rich chocolatey hue looks good enough to eat. Tap into this trend by swapping your usual black accessories for this dark brown shade or embrace it fully by wearing head-to-toe. Compliment with gold jewellery and other neutral shades like cream and white.
4. Ballet Flats
This French girl staple is having a renaissance. If you have a pair of Chanel’s iconic pumps in your closet, it’s time to revive them and wear them with everything. Velvet and satin styles will elevate evening wear, and buttery-soft leather is suited to off-duty dressing.
5. Bucket Bags
Bucket bags may typically be associated with off-duty dressing, but their recent fashion-forward upgrade means they are a great addition to your workwear too. This practical bag of choice will fit all your essentials and elevate the most pared-back looks, from denim and a white tee to relaxed tailoring.
6. Leather
Real or faux, leather is one of the strongest autumn/winter trends, dominating across all four capitals at the AW23 shows – and is a solid addition to your new season wardrobe when the temperature drops. Switch up a classic biker jacket for a more sophisticated leather blazer, and match with trousers for a cool head-to-toe look. Just add a camel coat over the top and neutral pointed boots.
