Janette Beckman Rebels: From Punk To Dior, Fotografiska, New York
Fotografiska New York’s Rebels: From Punk to Dior explores the work of artist Janette Beckman. Curated by Amanda Hajjar, Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska New York, in collaboration with visual artist Cey Adams, the photography instillation spotlights 11 key photographs from the artist’s new book, Rebels, including portraits of cultural legends such as Andre 3000, Salt-n-Pepa, Keith Haring, and more. Offering a compelling snapshot of Beckman’s significance in the world of art, photojournalism, music, fashion, and popular culture, the exhibit is “a testament of her unique ability to extract beauty from the outliers of society”.
In Conversation With Lady Glenconner, Holkham Hall, Norfolk
Join TV and Radio presenter David Whiteley in conversation with the inimitable Lady Glenconner for an evening at Holkham Hall. Sharing insights about her life at the stately Holkham as a young girl and what stimulated her third and most recent novel, A Haunting At Holkham, this one-off event promises to be wholly memorable. Guests will be welcomed with a drink on arrival, before taking their seats for the main event – attendees are also invited to submit questions ahead of time, for potential inclusion in the evening’s conversation.
Maria Lassnig & Cindy Sherman, Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz, St. Moritz
Curated by Peter Pakesch, the chairman of the Maria Lassnig Foundation, Maria Lassnig & Cindy Sherman at Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz brings together the works of two great female artists. Lassnig’s painted self-portraits and Sherman’s photographic works are presented in parallel in an exhibit which considers “the vital role that both artists, although more than a generation apart, played in the development of discussions around identity, gender, and the body in 20th and 21st century art”.
Federico Fellini: From Drawing To Film, Museum Folkwang, Essen
Federico Fellini (1920–1993) was one of the most revered filmmakers of the 20th century. Everybody knows of his filmmaking, but fewer know that his career in film was preceded by his work as a caricaturist. A new exhibition at Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany, is spotlighting this lesser-known titbit, illustrating the significance of Fellini’s drawings vis-à-vis his creative process by showcasing an array film stills, on-set recordings, and preparatory sketches for visitors to observe.
The Lost Daughter
Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal makes her directorial debut in The Lost Daughter, a psychological drama starring Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, and Normal People‘s Paul Mescal. An adaptation of the Elena Ferrante novel by the same name, The Lost Daughter centres on a woman’s quiet seaside vacation which “takes an unsettling turn when her fixation on a young mother staying at a nearby villa awakens memories from her past”. Willemien X Shreeji News, London
London-based artist, Willemien Bardawil’s first solo exhibition at the iconic Shreeji Newsagents, Marylebone runs until 16 December. Known for her charming and playful scenes of modern women, Willemien will be presenting a series of new paintings, ceramics, and a pop-up art studio where she will be offering live portrait painting – by appointment only. Stop by this characterful show for an injection of colour and joy this December.
