Spa of the Month: The Bulgari Hotel, London

This subterranean sanctuary in Knightsbridge is a hideaway for some super glamorous downtime. It’s one of the biggest, one of the best, and one of the blingiest (albeit elegant and understated), and five floors below the glossy grey granite entrance.

It’s where you take your best swimsuit, your favourite book and a fully charged phone for your social media stories, as you lounge by the 25-metre basement pool lined with a glistening gold and green mosaic. It’s really as slick as it can be.

Here’s our take on February’s Spa of the Month at The Bulgari…

SHOP THE ESSENTIALS

The Lowdown

The Spa is the jewel in the crown of this hotel. The gleaming spa consists of steam rooms, saunas, a vast pool, 11 treatment rooms and a lot of polished wood. Head to the piece de la resistance – the 25-metre basement pool forming the epicentre of a 2,000 square metre, two-storey spa that is itself one of the most multifaceted and ambitious in the city.

Lounge in beach club-style muslin-draped cabanas, with buttons to press when you feel an urgent requirement for a ginger tea or gut-friendly antioxidant shake. You could while away an entire day loafing and swimming gentle laps, sandwiched either side with an essential oil infused, wooden sauna, multi-jet experience showers cooling off with handfuls from the ice fountain.

If you can shake the indulgent feeling of laziness, take your Sweaty Betty’s along for use in the ultra-contemporary, ultra-discreet Workshop gym on site, where founder Lee Mullins sculpts the silhouettes of Oscar winners and supermodels.

THE VIBE

Arranged over two levels, this 2000m² wow-worthy temple of wellbeing offering a holistic concept is one of the largest and most exclusive spas in London. Through a maze of dark-wood treatment rooms, saunas, swirly onyx-marble steam rooms, ice fountains and a vitality pool that glints with gold-leaf mosaic, you are unlikely to bump into anyone, until you make it to the pool. Discreet is the word of the month here. You never quite know who is lurking behind swathes of muslin cloth in one of the poolside cabanas.

THE SIGNATURE

The Bulgari Spa is a pioneer of new beauty and body treatments, with a regularly changing Trend Room menu, tending to everything from poor sleep and gut health to anti-aging.

Their recent collaboration is an exclusive with 111SKIN presenting a menu of signature non-invasive spa experiences for both face and body.
Ideal for tired or jetlagged skin, the Cryotherapy Energy Facial (90 minutes £350) uses the application of extremely cold air (-30C) to your face. Results? The 3 ‘R’s that we love, reduced inflammation, rejuvenated skin and revitalised complexion.

Frequent flyers. City Dwellers. Hectic lifestyles. This one’s for you.

THE BEAUTY KIT

Pick up their 111SKIN range and takeaway the Rose Gold brightening facial treatment mask (set of 5 for £85 or a single for £20), the sub zero de-puffing eye mask (£65) and the lift off purifying cleanser (£40). Land or air, these will be your must-pack travel items from now on.
