The CF Checklist: October

Whilst September’s weather has been temperate, allowing us to squeeze the last wears out of our summer dresses before they retire into our wardrobes, October heralds the non-negotiable transfer into autumn dressing.

An array of boots, coats and knitwear will become our signature staples on rotation for the coming months, so invest wisely.

From outfit elevating embellished sweaters to wear-with-everything boots, these are the sartorial pieces that you will love all season and for many years to come.

THE CAMEL COAT

Is anything more perennially chic than a camel coat? It conjures images of classic style mavens from Carolyn Besette Kennedy to Lauren Hutton. Grazing the calves and with a ultra flattering wrap silhouette, this soft wool-blend Reiss wrap coat will become a staple of your wardrobe for many autumns to come. With a coat this delicious who cares what you wear underneath but for serious style points, wear with a tonal palette of caramels, creams and butterscotch.

THE COMBAT BOOT

Summer of 2020 was all about comfort with the likes of Birkenstocks, trainers and slippers being the footwear of choice. If the thought of a heeled boot brings you out in a cold sweat (you’d be forgiven), you’re in luck. The boot style of the season is chunky, stompy and oh-so-comfortable. With an exaggerated sole for extra inches, without a stiletto in sight, and cutting mid-calf, it works just as well with relaxed tailoring as it does toughening up feminine floral midi-dresses. The combat boot is as perfect for pounding the pavements between meetings or wracking up your daily steps on your next city break.

THE HOBO BAG

Shoe brand Neous – known for their minimalist barely-there sandals – has unleashed a collection of handbags handcrafted with the same attention to detail. The Neptune hails the revival of the 00s hobo bag. Constructed from buttery soft pleated Italian leather it comes in an array of rich hues from sunny yellows to delectable chocolate brown. It can be worn nonchantly slung over your shoulder or draped cross-body. Simply stow away your phone, cards, sanitizer and keys and you are good to go.

THE CHUNKY NECKLACE

Chunky chain details adorn many accessories for AW20: from bag handles, to loafers, and also your neck. Missoma’s Axiom necklace comprises two sizes of chain for an edgy, deconstructed feel. The green Malachite pendant is removable and can be switched with an alternative pendant from the new collection or simply wear the luxe chain alone. Layer multiple necklaces to elevate a simple white tee.

THE LUXE LEGGING

Leggings had a bad rep for a while – aside from gymwear they were deemed a fashion faux pas, with a propensity for opaqueness after a couple of spins in the washing machine. Gladly the wardrobe basic has come a long way, returning as a seasonal essential in a chic new iteration thanks to the likes of luxe label Commando. Available in velvet, faux leather and luxuriously thick jersey, pair with an oversized knit for cosy days indoors or a longline blazer for effortless polish.

THE ROMANTIC BLOUSE

The statement collar is a microtrend of the season and will make you look infinitely more put together for your next Zoom call. Slightly Victoriana, this ruffled blouse, replete with ballooned sleeves in a buttery yellow hue is romance personified. It is best paired with bootleg indigo jeans or a leather midi skirt.

The TROPHY KNIT

What’s not to love about knitwear dripping with diamonds? The statement knit takes you from desk to cocktails without need for an outfit change- how versatile. Cossetting virgin wool makes for a sumptuous knit to fight the change of temperature. Deconstructed with on-trend cut outs and purposely oversized – pair with skinny leather trousers or pleated skirt for a cool girl energy. Come December, it’s also the chic alternative to the festive knit without a bauble or christmas pudding motif in sight.

THE COCKTAIL DRESS

Dressing up to host indoors, is very much 2020’s answer to going out. Cool Italian fashion brand, The Attico, has developed a cult following thanks to its sultry party wear. This mini dress in silk and feathers is simply made for dancing on the tables, with a go big or go home energy. Pass the Margheritas.
