The Beauty Haul Diaries: Arabella Preston

Vegan beauty brand, Votary, has garnered a loyal following ever since its 2015 inception. It began from the kitchen table of makeup artist, Arabella Preston, when she started blending pure plant oils to cleanse her own skin, and that of her high-profile clients.

Arabella champions the transformative power of plant oils and botanical actives for healthy, dewy skin at any age, dutifully packing her products with the best quality and most potent ingredients. Votary’s mantra is that beautiful skin begins with properly clean skin, which is why the ritualistic Votary cleansing routine is at the heart of every product.

The expanding range now contains cleansing oils, facial oils, creams, and hard-working serums. Most recently Votary launched the Intense Overnight Mask, powered by rosehip and high performing hyaluronic acid, to wake up with better skin than you went to sleep with.

From packing miniatures of her favourite products, to nourishing hair oils to fight the frizz, this is how Arabella Preston does beauty on the move.

What are your must-do beauty rituals or treatments before you travel?

I love to have a long shower, wash and dry my hair and massage body oil into my skin. I then do a simple skincare routine with light layers, a serum and an oil. I pack a mini oil in my handbag for top-ups.

How do you adapt your beauty regime when you travel?

Everything in mini sizes and minimal tools. So I focus on cream formulas for make-up that can be applied with fingers. I don’t bother packing a hairdryer so instead take nourishing hair products to keep my frizz in check.

What’s the best way to downsize your at-home beauty product haul for travel?

Pack minis! Most brands do them. I have tried decanting things in the past, but always forget to label them properly.

Do you have a regular plane beauty routine?

I always carry on a great smelling facial oil. It makes my skin glow and prevents it drying out in cabin air, while the smell creates my own little bubble of joy.

I pop a Votary Intense Eye Oil in the fridge. The metal roller ball is so cooling and soothing on tired eyes.

I adore French chemist brands.

The Marbella Club Spa is wonderful. I’ve been working with them for while now and Votary facials are on the menu there. It manages to hit that perfect sweet spot of pleasing all ages. The spa is my happy place because I know my family are happy too!

What are your top make-up tips when travelling?

Keep it light, don’t overload your skin, and do a cleansing oil and hot cloth cleanse as soon as you can after landing.
