The Beauty Haul Diaries: Maria Hatzistefanis AKA Mrs Rodial

Maria Hatzistefanis, AKA Mrs Rodial, is one of our favourite beauty entrepreneurs…

The impeccably dressed beauty guru is the founder of not one, but two, hugely successful brands: Rodial (famed for its playful product names like Dragon’s Blood) and Nip + Fab, targeted to a growing millennial cliental.

Careers as a beauty writer – back in her native Greece – and a short stint in banking, led her to connect with her true calling: to fill a gap in the market for a results-driven skincare brand.

Pre-COVID, Maria would travel once a month for work. She says, “travel is important to me, as I find it makes me creative and energises me. Many of my best product ideas have come to me when I have been travelling.”

From being the ultimate ambassador for her own skincare brand, Rodial, to ensuring perfect hair with a good pre-flight blow dry, this is how Maria Hatzistefanis does beauty in transit.

What are your must-do beauty rituals or treatments before you travel?

I drinks lots of green juice a few days leading up to the trip, to boost my immune system. I use lots of Rodial masks: Pink Diamond Lifting Face and Dragons Blood Jelly Eye Patches the night before, and during the flight.

How do you adapt your beauty regime when you travel?

My skin gets dehydrated during the flight, and due to jet lag, so I always get a rich moisturiser to use – my Bee Venom Moisturiser is my favourite.

Do you prefer to pack travel minis or full-size beauty staples? And why?

I like to travel with minis to save as much space as possible.

Do you have a regular plane beauty routine?

I remove all make up with the Dragons Blood Micellar Cleansing Water, then the Vit C Brightening Cleansing Pads to further cleanse the skin for impurities. I then apply the Dragons Blood Eye Masks to keep my eye area hydrated.

How do you unwind when travelling?

I take my Kindle and read lots of books.

How do you overcome jet-lag skin/eyes when you land?

I apply a rich eye cream, the Vit C Eye Soufflé is my favourite. I then have a warm bath and apply the Dragons Blood Jelly Eye Patches and Pink Diamond Lifting Mask, I am addicted to masking!

What’s your favourite country to shop for home-grown beauty products?

I love Korean beauty and picked up a lot of products on my last trip there that inspired me to create our Rodial masks and recently the White Crystal Drops for pigmentation and bright skin.

What’s been your favourite vacation spa so far?

I love the Six Senses spa Krabey Island, Cambodia

What are your top beauty tips when travelling?

Get a good blow dry when you land. It will save you time, and don’t need to worry about styling your hair. I always do this when I travel.

THE PACKING LOWDOWN

Travel light or over-packer?

Travel light. I pick out each outfit for each day, down to the accessories and shoes, so I know exactly what I am wearing for each occasion. I don’t like to bring unnecessary clutter when I travel.

Hand luggage essential?

I carry a Louis Vuitton carry-on bag for my electronics, beauty kit and cashmere scarf. I also buy a lot of magazines before the flight. It’s one of the few times I can actually focus and read a magazine.

Spa facial or massage?

Massage! A good massage invigorates the face too.

Vacation air-dry or blow-dry?

Blow-dry. Although months of quarantine have allowed me to learn how to style my hair like an expert!

Faux tan or au naturel?

Faux tan.

Desert island product…

The Rodial Pink Diamond Instant Lifting face mask!
