Still After Your Summer Sandals?

What are you wearing on your feet right now? Trainers? Slippers? Nothing at all? It’s not too late to snap up an excellent summer sandal to make the most of the balmier days afoot (sorry).

You may, like me, have spent all summer deliberating your next sandal investment, only to find your favourite style now frustratingly out of stock. I hear you. For such eventualities, we’ve compiled this rather comprehensive guide of summer sandals to buy now. From key SS21 trends – like the fisherman sandal and the clog – through to timeless styles, we have you covered.

THE CHUNKY SOLE

If comfort is a prerequisite for your new sandal purchase, the Lockstockk by Dune is an absolute winner. Looking far more expensive than it's price tag suggests, these 'Dad' sandals were a constant sell-out last summer and still reign supreme for SS21. Available in various iterations – from denim and tweed, to maximalist leopard print – we are particularly fond of the luxe quilted black leather version. What's more, the chunky heel adds some extra height, without even a whisper of a heel.

THE KITTEN HEEL

Manu Atelier’s veritable array of handbags and shoes are like cat-nip to Fashion Editors, and the SS21 sandal collection is no exception. The Lace Sandal is my footwear of choice for summer weddings, the return to bars, and every glamorous outing in between. Constructed from buttery leather, the kitten heel is perfectly wearable, whilst the chic ankle ties add extra support. Available in an array of eye-popping shades, the only question that remains is: sage green or punchy red?

THE SIMPLE SLIDES

Every woman needs that effortless pair of slip-on slides that go with simply every outfit. The Dune Loupe more than fits the criteria – I can't think of a single instance that these go-with-everything sandals aren't suitable for. With a smart, cut-out design to elevate the understated silhouette, I'll be wearing mine on repeat.

THE CHUNKY SOLE

One of the many style lessons we've learnt from the past 18 months of yo-yo lockdowns is that we can do comfort and chic in equal measure. These sandals feel just as cosy as your favourite slippers – thanks to their moulded footbed, which quite literally hugs your feet. Understated yet cool, these chunky sandals toughen up those pretty summer dresses we are wearing on repeat. Plus, the olive hue is a beautiful alternative neutral to brown or black.

The Bejewelled Sandals

Jimmy Choo can always be relied upon for party-ready footwear. These delicate sandals bedecked with pretty pearls and crystals are simply made for day-to-night dressing. They also boast a surprisingly wearable heel. We'll see you on the dancefloor…

THE CLOG

The return of the clog for SS21 may have been met with trepidation when it first emerged on our Instagram feeds; however, following months of wearing tracksuits on repeat, its return makes total sense. Flat, functional, and easy to slip on and off, we are well and truly sold. We're opting for this pair by Ancient Greek Sandals, in a rich chestnut hue, for a hippie-luxe feel.

THE FISHERMAN SANDALS

Another divisive trend – the fisherman sandal – is far more wearable than it may first appear. Whilst some iterations are a bit too clumpy, or structured, this ultra-soft, padded leather pair from Spanish label, Hereu are like walking on pillows. Perfect for a seaside staycation, they work wonders with denim and the softest of knits. Side note: the closed-toe will also cleverly disguise if your pedicure has seen better days too.

THE MULE

The demure mule is the easiest way to elevate your look from day-to-night. We love the crisp, minimalist designs from Berlin-based aeydē. This pair has a retro 90s sensibility that feels so fresh for now. Pair them with your favourite denim or bias-cut slip skirt to instantly make every look that little more elegant.

THE GLADIATOR

Gladiator sandals feel very Kate Moss in Glastonbury circa 2006 – and we're here for the revival. Particularly when adorned with the ubiquitous studs Valentino has brought back this season. These are the very definition of trophy shoes… and are almost too pretty to wear.

The ROPE SANDAL

Ready to embrace a full heel with open arms? May we suggest Miista's rope sandals. Crafted in Spain, these transform the most inauspicious of outfits into an Ibiza beach-club ready ensemble. The sculptural heel not only looks smart, but means these will be superiorly comfortable for dancing late into the night…
