CF's July Sustainable Edit

Welcome to The July Sustainable Edit, this month’s edition of Citizen Femme’s monthly column showcasing the sustainable collectives on our radar.

From sustainable swimwear to plant-based restaurants and conscious hotels, these are the names making a positive change this July.

STAY

Blue Palace, a Luxury Collection Resort, Elounda, Crete

Situated between the picturesque fishing village of Plaka and the chic port of Elounda on the island of Crete, Blue Palace is an island resort with an ethos focusing on people and the planet. Under the umbrella of Greek hospitality leader Phāea, they believe sustainability is much more than enabling guests to reuse their bath towels: with a true love for the community, they seek solutions to local and global challenges. Boasting an impressive 51 reasons why they’re proud to be sustainable, the integrity of Cretan soul is at the heart of everything they do. In honouring Mediterranean responsible living, agriculture is an important part of their heritage; buying local, seasonal ingredients from farmers across the island and growing edible landscapes in the hotel’s grounds to serve up delicious farm-to-table feasts. Visit to indulge in a harmonious blend of nature and luxury whilst travelling responsibly. Read the full hotel review here. Gemma Louise Deeks.

FASHION

Medina Swim

Medina Swim founder, Lou Medina, grew up in UNESCO world heritage city Cordoba in Spain, where she inherited her love of heritage and respect for timeless aesthetics. She created her elevated swimwear brand with a mission to create luxurious swimwear for the conscious shopper, based on three core principles: Conscious Making, Circular Material, and a Clean Ocean Tax. Every Medina customer gives back with 3% of each sale going to non-profit organisations that protect and rehabilitate the sea. Medina’s ECONYL® regenerated nylon, UV-proof, chlorine-resistant – yet luxuriously supple suits – are expertly crafted to embrace the female form and transcend trends, whilst protecting the earth. BEAUTY

Faith in Nature

At a recent gathering of beauty editors, there was one brand on everyone’s lips after multiple people revealed it was behind their healthy-looking tresses: Faith In Nature. Newly B-Corp certified, the haircare and bodycare brand has been “harnessing the power of nature without harming it in the process” since 1974. It started using recycled bottles back in 1999 and was one of the first brands to introduce large refillables to the beauty market. ‘Nature’ is even on the company’s board of directors, meaning the environmental consequences of any business decision have to be considered in full before they are approved. It makes the overall brilliance of the shampoo and conditioners (and their full array of scents) even sweeter. Becki Murray.

EAT

Mallow, Canary Wharf

Following the success of Mallow Borough Market, which opened in 2021, the pioneering plant-based chain – brought to you by the team behind Mildreds – has opened its second location in the heart of Canary Wharf. With a generous menu inspired by global cuisines, Mallow’s dishes feature ingredients sourced from small, sustainable businesses and specialist producers, ensuring ingredients used have the least possible impact on the environment while offering the best possible flavours. Stand-out dishes include the Spinach Dahi Puri served with lime coconut sambol and blackcurrant tamarind chutney, and the brand’s hero dessert: the crème brûlée. Wash them down with a Lychee pitaya martini cocktail. Gemma Louise Deeks.

DRINK

Clii Crémant

Clii is an exciting new, female-founded, sparkling wine brand on a mission to introduce the public to the vintage wonders of Crémant. It’s more than just a mission. As founder Dasha Korznikova puts it, “Clii aims to cultivate not just a fine Crémant, but a future for the industry that respects the Earth.” The wine is handcrafted in small batches using only the finest Pinot Blanc grapes. Grown in Alsace, Clii’s ecological vineyards emphasise practices that protect and nurture the soils, land, and surrounding ecosystems. Produced using the méthode traditionnelle, the process commonly associated with Champagne production, Clii is a wine superior to prosecco and most entry-level Champagnes, all at an enticingly competitive price.
