CF's September Sustainable Edit

Welcome to the September Sustainable Edit, this month’s edition of Citizen Femme’s monthly column showcasing the sustainable collectives on our radar.

From conscious jewellery brands and sustainable hotels to vegan brunch spots, these are the names making a positive change this September.

JEWELLERY

Chupi

Founder Chupi Sweetman created her Dublin-based fine jewellery brand as an ode to the beauty of heirloom jewellery. Timeless pieces with a conscious core – and designed to celebrate life’s most precious moments – her jewellery is a luxury purchase you can feel good about buying. All of her pieces are handmade from 100% recycled solid gold, precious stones and consciously-sourced or lab-grown diamonds, and are inspired by the beauty and magic of Ireland. Gemma Louise Deeks.

FASHION

Stella McCartney

A pioneer in the fashion world, British brand Stella McCartney continually introduces new and innovative ways to grow as a responsible, honest, and sustainable brand. The epitome of luxury fashion with a conscience, the brand has launched its first runway line-up on NET-A-PORTER that is entirely NET SUSTAIN-approved, all styles falling within the Considered Materials or Animal Welfare NET SUSTAIN Attributes, from cruelty-free supply chains to fabrics produced with a significantly reduced environmental impact. Expect Savile Row tailoring, slinky dresses and plush knits this autumn. Gemma Louise Deeks.

BEAUTY

Guerlain

Demonstrating that caring for the environment never has to mean compromising on quality, Guerlain’s award-winning Abeille Royale range continues to inspire its Women for Bees initiative. Going beyond ensuring the sustainable cultivation of the Black Bee honey used within its indulgent formulas, the brand has pledged to help repopulate 125 million bees by 2025; supporting the fight against climate change and non-sustainable farming. This year, the company has also launched a new programme in Mexico, working specifically to support beekeeping traditions among Mayan women, and to help the conservation of the sacred ancient Melipona bee population. EAT

WAVE

We Are Vegan Everything was co-founded by two best friends with a love and passion for vegan cuisine, minimalist homeware and a sunshine lifestyle. With one branch in Hackney and one in Stoke Newington, they offer delicious, simple and nutritious vegan food that even your non-vegan friends will love. Standout brunch dishes include the Brekkie Bowl and the Sunny Side, but the pancakes aren’t to be missed either. Gemma Louise Deeks.

STAY

The BoTree

Welcoming guests from 15 September 2023, The BoTree, located on Marylebone Lane, is one of London’s most exciting hotel openings this year – and comes with a commitment to conscious luxury. Expect stylish furnishings featuring vegan leather headboards and eucalyptus Tencel bedding – all of which have been chosen for their eco-friendly credentials – as well as partnerships with like-minded brands that are a catalyst for positive change. British brand Jo Loves will be The BoTree’s official bathroom amenity partner, and all products are vegan, natural, sulphate, paraben, and cruelty-free – each packaged using OceanBound Plastic.
