Best place to stay?

For me, it has to be the Mandarin Oriental, which offers elegant old-school glamour, right in the centre of town.

Best place for brunch?

The China Club and China Tang for their fabulous interiors and wonderful food.

Favourite restaurant for dinner?

I really love Cha Cha Wan for a totally unique Thai experience. It’s the coolest little place and it’s northern Thai food which is really quite different to what we are all used to when we think of Thai food. You’ll find it on Tai Ping Shan Street in the Poho area.

Favourite place for a cocktail?

I love The Aubrey at the Mandarin Oriental as it’s got such a great vibe; browse the incredible selection of books and curl up in one of the nooks and crannies with a tasty cocktail. Also, Sevva is a more contemporary spot with a vertical garden terrace and stunning views – it’s always worth a trip.

Best place to go shopping?

Hong Kong is filled with malls which are less interesting but sometimes you get a real gem. Rue Madame is the best multi brand store. It’s got such amazing thoughtful buys and fabulous items and it’s not trying to rip you off. A proper boutique.

Favourite view?

The view from my bedroom window. I live in Pokfulam which is on the west side of Hong Kong Island so you can see Lamma Island and the sea with ships and boats constantly going by.

Where can we find great art?

During Hong Kong art month in March, it’s always worth checking out Art Basel, Art Central and the auction previews. M+ and Tai Kwun are great, world class institutions and Wong Chuk Hang has all the best galleries.

Best tip for relaxation?

The Four Seasons Spa is completely fabulous with a stunning harbour-front location.

Best tip for adventure?

Go to Sai Kung Public Pier and jump on one of the fast boats to reach the islands, they have the most beautiful clear water, beaches and dramatic scenery. Basalt Island and salt island are jaw-dropping.

Top insider secret?

We still have amazing tailors in Hong Kong. Come and be fitted for a suit here – De-Luxe Tailor is brilliant.

Best hidden neighbourhood?

Tai Hang is a rare pocket of chill that can be hard to find on Hong Kong Island. It’s totally charming and understatedly hip with lots of indie cafes, secluded shops, local eateries, and historic landmarks.

Tell us a fact about your city that most visitors wouldn’t know.

Hong Kong is covered with greenery and some of the most amazing hikes in the world. Just minutes from such a busy metropolis you are often the only person, surrounded by lush jungle looking down on the best views you can possibly imagine.

Your number one tip for visitors?

Get on a ferry and go to one of the outlying islands such as Lamma or Cheung Chau. They are full of character and local delights. Try one of the seafood restaurants for the best Cantonese dishes around. My favourite is Ming Kee on Po Toi Island.

Your favourite memory of Hong Kong?

My family used to have an old fashioned junk (wooden ship) and we spent every weekend on it. All my best childhood memories are on the water here.

Anything else we should know?

Hong Kong truly has something for everyone. Come and visit now, you won’t regret it!
